Memorial Hall of the former central organ of the Chinese Socialist Youth League
On August 22, 1920, under the leadership of the early organization of the Communist Party of China, Yu Xiusong and other eight youths initiated the establishment of China's first Socialist Youth League Shanghai Socialist Youth League. The organization of the regiment was located at No. 6 yuyangli, Xiafei Road, French concession at that time (now No. 6, Lane 567, Huaihai Middle Road). The establishment of Shanghai Socialist Youth League has played a key role in initiating and guiding the establishment of Socialist Youth League in various places. In order to protect and unite the progressive youth, in September of the same year, a "foreign language society" was set up here. At the same time, an advertisement for enrollment was published in the Republic of China Daily. Liu Shaoqi, Ren Bishi, Xiao Jingguang and Luo Yinong were recommended by local youth league organizations to study in the "foreign language society" and successively went to the Soviet Union. In November 1921, the provisional constitution of the Youth League clearly stipulated that "when the central organ of the formal Youth League is not formed, the organ of the Shanghai Youth League shall act as the central authority". The former site of the central organ of the Chinese Socialist Youth League is a Shikumen building built in 1917. On March 4, 1961, it was announced by the State Council of the people's Republic of China as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
The memorial was restored in 2004 and opened to the public. In April 2019, after upgrading, it will be open to the public again for free.
The memorial hall is divided into six exhibition areas.
There are two exhibition areas on the first floor: the preface hall and the Communist Youth League knowledge interactive experience area. The exhibition hall on the second floor is divided into four exhibition areas in chronological order: "the May 4th Movement and the founding of the founding of the founding group of the Communist Party of China", "the establishment of the Shanghai Socialist Youth League", "the progressive youth cultivated by the foreign language society and yuyangli" and "from the establishment of the Provisional Central Executive Committee of the Youth League to the convening of the first Youth League Congress". The preface hall on the first floor presents for the first time the "Three Firsts" of No. 6 new yuyangli, namely, the first Socialist Youth League established by the Communist Party of China Shanghai Socialist Youth League; the first cadre school founded by the Communist Party of China foreign language society; and the first news agency led by the Communist Party of China Russia News Agency. Right in front of the preface hall are the art bronze carvings of the eight promoters of the Shanghai Socialist Youth League. The first floor also added an area of 83.8 square meters of the Communist Youth League knowledge interactive experience area. Through multimedia, video games and other new technology means, the exhibition area brings the history of the league, the League constitution, the membership card, the League emblem, and the process of joining the League to the visitors in a way that is easy to understand and remember. It realizes the online check-in of the league members, and provides a way of learning through education and entertainment.
The exhibition on the second floor of the memorial hall is mainly based on "graphic and physical exhibits". With more abundant historical materials and cultural relics, more novel multimedia presentation and artistic expression, it looks back on the red footprints of a hundred years ago and expresses the patriotic feelings of revolutionary youth.
The newly added yuyangli square is adjacent to Huaihai middle road and separated from the memorial hall by a lane. It used to be an outdoor parking lot, but now it has become the first Red Square on the prosperous road of Shanghai - yuyangli square.
The highlight of the whole yuyangli square lies in the "youth hymn" relief wall and the "youth footprints" trail.
The wall is composed of ten large-scale reliefs in the history of Chinese youth movement, with a total length of 58 meters and a height of 3.4 meters. The contents displayed include the May 4th movement, the establishment of the Shanghai Socialist Youth League, the December 9th Movement, youth volunteer reclamation activities, learning from Lei Feng activities, the new Long March commandos (teams) activities, hope project, Chinese youth volunteer activities, etc.
On the ground in front of the relief wall is a 3-meter-wide "youth footprint" trail. A total of 16 memorabilia about the history of the Communist Youth League are engraved on the footpath. After walking this footpath, I also learned the history of the Communist Youth League briefly.
In addition, a flag raising area is set up in the square to hold flag raising ceremony on important days. It also provides an important public cultural place for teenagers to grow up under the national flag, review revolutionary history, and receive ritual education.
