Nanpu Bridge
Nanpu Bridge is a river crossing channel connecting Huangpu District and Pudong New Area in Shanghai, China. It is located on the Huangpu River waterway and is one of the parts of Shanghai inner ring expressway.
Nanpu Bridge was built in 1988, completed on November 19, 1991 and opened to traffic on December 1, 1991.
Nanpu Bridge starts from Luban Road Interchange in the west, crosses Huangpu River Waterway in the upper and ends at Zhangjiang interchange in the south. The total length of the line is 8364m, and the total length of the main bridge is 836m. The bridge deck is a two-way six lane urban expressway with a design speed of 60km / h. The total cost is 820 million yuan.
Construction process
In early 1988, the former Shanghai Municipal Construction Committee held a meeting and decided to build the Nanpu Bridge independently.
On December 25, 1988, the construction of Nanpu Bridge started.
In July 1990, the steel girder of Nanpu Bridge was erected.
On June 8, 1991, the steel beams of the main bridge of Nanpu Bridge were closed.
On November 19, 1991, the construction of Nanpu Bridge was completed; on December 1, 1991, Nanpu Bridge was put into operation.
On April 18, 2015, Nanpu Bridge was closed in two directions, and the bridge was inspected.
In September 2018, in order to welcome China International Import Expo, Nanpu Bridge was painted.
Bridge location
Nanpu Bridge is located in the south pier of Nanshi District, Shanghai, China. The whole section of Nanpu Bridge is Shanghai inner ring expressway. The main bridge longitudinally spans the Huangpu River channel, 5 km away from the downstream Suzhou estuary, 11 km away from the downstream Yangpu Bridge, and 10.2 km away from the upstream Xupu bridge. The bridge starts from Luban Road Interchange in the West and ends at Zhangjiang interchange in the south. The Puxi approach bridge connects Zhongshan South Road and lujiahong Road, and the Pudong approach bridge leads to Yanggao in the East It is connected with Pudong South Road.
Architectural design
building structure
Overall layout
Nanpu Bridge is composed of main bridge on water, Pudong on land, Puxi approach bridge, H-shaped bridge tower and its interchange ramp. The main bridge section is arranged from northwest to Southeast.
Design concept
The design of Nanpu Bridge means "Panlong holding its head high", just like a giant dragon hovering on the Huangpu River. It makes Shanghai people realize the dream of "flying over the Huangpu River with one bridge". The bridge is rigid, straight, simple and light, flying over the Huangpu River with magnificent scenery.
Design features
Nanpu Bridge is the first self-designed and built cable-stayed bridge with double pylons and double cable planes. The main bridge adopts the composite beam structure of steel beam and reinforced concrete precast slab. The main bridge tower is a broken line H-shaped reinforced concrete structure. The main beam is connected by steel cables on both sides of each tower, and the cable plane is fan-shaped. The tower base is steel pipe pile group pile foundation. The bridge approach is a prestressed reinforced concrete beam and reinforced concrete pier structure, in which the Puxi approach is spiral in complex curve The upper and lower ring roads bifurcate to connect the surrounding streets, while the Pudong approach bridge leads eastward to the street, and is connected with the two ends of Pudong South Road by two complex curve oblong rings.
Design parameters
Nanpu Bridge is 8364m long and the main bridge is 836m long. It adopts "40.5 + 76.5 + 94.5 + 423 + 94.5 + 76.5 + 40.5" span layout, 30.35m wide, with 6 motorways and 2m wide sightseeing sidewalks on both sides. The tower is 155m high, 171 m from tower to anchorage and 94.5m from tower to auxiliary light. There are 22 pairs of steel cables on both sides of the tower. The diameter of the tower base is 914mm and the depth is more than 50m The total length of the bridge approach is 7500 meters, including 3754 meters for Puxi approach and 3746 meters for Pudong approach. The maximum slope of the approach is 4% on the uphill and 3.5% on the downhill. The daily traffic capacity can reach 45000 to 50000 vehicles. The main section of the bridge is a two-way six Lane urban expressway, which adopts the first-class highway standard.
Equipment and facilities
Lighting facilities
In order to welcome the opening ceremony of 2010 Shanghai World Expo, Nanpu Bridge, according to the overall shape, is intended to be "Panlong head up". The approach bridge is the body of Panlong, and the bridge tower is the head and neck of Panlong, which is the image of Panlong. The white light-emitting diode (LED) spot spot is used to simulate Longlin. Starting from the circling approach bridge, the spot gradually rolls to the top of the tower to show the majestic posture of the dragon.
Sightseeing facilities
There are more than 50 meters high elevator buildings on the East and west sides of Nanpu Bridge for citizens and guests to visit.
Monitoring equipment
As of August 2017, the whole section of Nanpu Bridge has been equipped with traffic monitoring equipment such as electronic police.
Operation
Fare system
In February 2000, the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) submitted the proposal of "some suggestions on the negative effects of collecting river crossing fees and resolving contradictions"; in May of the same year, the Shanghai municipal government announced to cancel the fees for river crossing tunnels and bridges, including the Nanpu Bridge.
Construction achievements
Technical problems
In the design of Nanpu Bridge, the theory of creep and shrinkage of composite girder cable-stayed bridge is deeply studied, and the computer program is compiled; A new type of anchor box welded on the outside of the I-beam is designed; the steel bar on the surface of the precast slab is welded with the micro expansion concrete; the auxiliary pier is set on the shore span to reduce the bending moment of the tower root, the deformation of the tower body and the deflection of the middle span by half.
In terms of construction technology, it was the first time in the world at that time that the temporary tripod suspension technology was used in cantilever assembly and the stress adjustment of the crossbeam was carried out before the composite beam was formed. A number of new construction technologies were adopted and the temperature drop was used to accurately realize the non forced closure, creating an international advanced construction speed of two years and three hundred and twenty days to complete the bridge.
In the aspect of scientific research, the wind tunnel model test and complete theoretical analysis of the wind resistance performance of the bridge are carried out for the first time in China, and the three beam dynamic analysis model and seismic analysis software considering the restrained torsional stiffness are proposed for the first time.

Building signs
On February 18, 1991, Deng Xiaoping inspected Shanghai. When the Nanpu Bridge was completed, he personally wrote "Nanpu Bridge".
scenic spot
In March 2019, Shanghai Pujiang "fast tour line" opened for trial operation, and Nanpu bridge belonged to the "Essence Tour" of Pujiang.
Value significance
The completion of Nanpu Bridge fully embodies the spirit, style, level and efficiency of Shanghai. < I (comments by Li Peng, then Premier of the State Council) < / I
With less than half of the estimated cost of Japan, we built the Nanpu Bridge in Shanghai with the loan of Asian Development Bank, which not only achieved the autonomy of the bridge construction, but also made progress through practice, trained the team, trained the talents, and more importantly, established confidence and improved the ambition, laying the foundation for the rise of Chinese bridges in the 20th century. < I (review of Shanghai Nanpu Bridge Project)
