Xiaowumen
Xiaowumen has always been a place name in the ancient city of Changsha; now it refers to the intersection of Zhongshan Road, Bayi West Road and Jianxiang road. According to historical records, in the early Ming Dynasty, the old city wall of Xiaowumen experienced a large-scale renovation. The earth city wall was changed into brick and stone wall, and Changsha City became a strong defensive city. In the early years of the Republic of China, most of the city walls were demolished because of the construction of the ring road, and the nine gates, including Xiaowumen, one of the nine gates in the ancient city of Changsha, were also destroyed.
brief introduction
In the period of the Republic of China, the street was widened and extended to the riverside, and its name was changed to Zhongshan Road. On the occasion of the peaceful liberation of Changsha in 1949, the Chinese people's Liberation Army held a grand ceremony to enter the city in Xiaowumen, which was welcomed by Changsha citizens.
Interestingly, as a place name and one of the nine gates, where is the exact location of Xiaowumen? Now it is difficult to verify, so the area from the north section of Jianxiang road to Wuyi Avenue and Zhongshan road is generally called Xiaowumen.
Today's Xiaowumen is crowded with people, restaurants, shops and banks. The mobile phone market in Baonan street is booming.
There is a folk legend: the historical Xiaowumen was actually a Xiaowu state in Changsha at that time. At that time, the country was very small, with a population of only a hundred people

Historical development
In the early Ming Dynasty, on the one hand, Zhu Yuanzhang reduced the burden of farmers and restored social economic production, which is known as "the rule of Hongwu". At that time, the markets around Xiaowumen were bustling and handicraft workshops were everywhere. Capitalism had already emerged in Changsha, which virtually laid a solid foundation for the prosperity of Min junior high school in the late Qing Dynasty. In 1377, Qiu Guang, commander of Changsha garrison, changed the dilapidated old city of Changsha in Yuan Dynasty into brick and stone buildings. This large-scale renovation of the city wall, which costs a lot of money, is unique in the history of Changsha. At this point, Changsha began to have a stone brick wall with strong defense function, which was called "strong city", and Xiaowumen was the most important part of "strong city", which was as strong as an iron wall. There are nearly 6000 garrisons in this area, and soldiers often "arrest thieves and cross examine traitors and puppets" at the gate of the city.
In the period of the Republic of China, the street was widened and extended to the riverside, and its name was changed to Zhongshan Road. With the construction of the road around the city, Xiaowumen also died, but survived as a place name. However, Xiaowumen witnessed an important event in the history of Changsha: on the occasion of the peaceful liberation of Changsha in 1949, the Chinese people's Liberation Army held a grand ceremony to enter the city in Xiaowumen, which opened into Changsha in a mighty manner. Changsha citizens welcomed it with unprecedented splendor
