The embassy was set up at 82 Shanghai road. In April 1946, the embassy moved back to Nanjing from Chongqing. In July, Leighton Stuart was appointed ambassador. The site of the museum was relocated to 18 Xikang Road. The former Shanghai road building was changed to the US information service. In August 1949, Leighton Stuart left Nanjing, and the embassy soon closed. On February 18, 1950, bacon, the last American diplomat, left Ningxia and returned to the United States. Xikang Road Museum is composed of three identical two-story western style buildings and three western style bungalows, which are built on the hillside terrain. The building is an apartment building with brick and stone structure. The plane of the building is concave. The building area of each building is 936 square meters. The front porch has a balcony, a sloping roof and a basement. The bungalow is built at the back of the building. It is the residence for the attendants and servants. Each building covers an area of 96 square meters and is of brick and wood structure. The former site of the embassy was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province in 2002.

Before 1937, Chen ChangZu bought 716 square meters of land and built one Western-style two-story building with brick and wood structure and one bungalow, with a construction area of 285.1 square meters. It was rented to the U.S. embassy. In early October 1949, the U.S. Embassy withdrew the lease. In April 1950, it was managed by the Municipal Housing Authority
. There is an existing main building, which used to face south. Now it is reconstructed to face east in the West. It is three stories high (adding one story later), with red brick and beige exterior wall, herringbone slope roof, red tile and tiger window. A bungalow is built on the south side to connect the main building, and a bungalow on the northeast side has been changed into a boiler room

Before the Anti Japanese War
In September 1936, the US government appointed Jason as the first ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to China. Before the Anti Japanese War, the U.S. embassy was located at 82 Shanghai road. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, in July 1946, the U.S. government appointed Leighton Stuart as ambassador to replace Jason. The site of the embassy was moved to Xikang Road, and the former Shanghai road building was changed into the information office.
The U.S. embassy building on Xikang Road is composed of three western style buildings with the same shape and scale and three western style bungalows, which are built on the hillside terrain. Built in 1946, the three buildings are apartment buildings with brick and stone structure, two stories high and one story basement. The building area of each building is 936 square meters. In the middle of the facade are porches and balconies, with sloping roofs on all sides. Fireplaces and chimneys for heating are erected on both sides and at the back of the ridge. The floor plan of the house is concave. The front and side of the ground floor are living corridors. The middle part is living room and office. The back part is kitchen and dining room. The bedrooms and washrooms are arranged upstairs. The basement is boiler room and storage room. Three bungalows are built at the back of each building. They are the residences of attendants and servants. The building area of each building is 96 square meters, with brick and wood structure, gray lath ceiling and ordinary wood floor.
After the Anti Japanese War
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the US embassy moved from Chongqing to Nanjing in April 1946. Because the United States acted as a mediator between the KMT and the CPC, the American embassy became the focus of world attention. On February 18, 1950, bacon, the last diplomat of the US government, left Nanjing and returned to the US.
In 2009, Xikang hotel was rebuilt.
