The idea of building Jiamo Notre Dame church was first proposed by Madeira, commander of taizai garrison, in 1875, in order to coordinate the spread of Catholicism on the island and provide religious services to local Catholics

In the chapel to the left of the church entrance, there is also a statue of the Virgin Mary. July 16 is the day of Notre Dame, but most of the celebrations are arranged on the nearest Sunday.

The church covers an area of more than 2000 square feet, with a bell tower at the top. The hall is large and spacious, which can accommodate more than 200 parishioners to attend the ceremony at the same time. On the altar, there is a statue of the virgin, which is said to have been transported from Europe. On both sides of the hall, there are several feet of angels, which are lifelike in shape, and are set up to commemorate the centenary of the hall.
