Ye Qianyu, born in Tonglu County, Zhejiang Province on March 31, 1907, loves painting and folk art since childhood. After graduating from middle school, he went to Shanghai and worked in advertising, book illustration, dyeing and weaving design, stage setting, etc. later, he was mainly engaged in comic creation. Together with Zhang Guangyu, he created Shanghai comic weekly, edited time pictorial, and published a long comic series Mr. Wang. During the Anti Japanese War, he established and led the Anti Japanese cartoon propaganda team, devoted himself to Anti Japanese propaganda, and edited China today pictorial in Hong Kong. Since 1933, he has been engaged in life sketch for a long time. Since 1942, the creation of figure painting with traditional ink and brush has opened a new realm for Chinese painting. In 1947, he was employed to teach in Beiping art college. From 1966 to 1975, after ten years of turmoil, he was sentenced to prison. In 1979, he was officially rehabilitated.
