Yuhe river is an ancient river with a long history in Beijing. It was called Tonghui River in Yuan Dynasty. In May 2009, the historical and cultural protection project of Yuhe river was officially started. In the process of Yuhe reconstruction, Dongcheng District has been exploring how to protect its historical features, better reflect its historical value, and perfectly combine it with improving people's livelihood. Therefore, it puts forward the policy of "protecting as much as possible".
The north section of the Yuhe River, which has been reappeared, has been restored strictly along the direction of the ancient river. From Wanning bridge to Dongbu bridge, it is 480 meters long, 18 meters wide on average and about 1 meter deep. In addition, a waterside pavilion, a curved bridge, two boat paths and four platforms have been rebuilt on the embankment, which makes the whole Yuhe river more unified and complete, and also provides convenience for citizens to come to view and leisure.
