Dingling mausoleum is the mausoleum of Emperor Zhu Yijun and his two queens. It has the only underground palace excavated in the Ming Tombs and is one of the three largest Mausoleums in the Ming Tombs. Emperor Wanli ascended the throne at the age of 10, died at the age of 58 and reigned for 48 years. At the age of 22, Wanli began to build his own mausoleum, which took six years to complete.
Dingling underground palace is the only underground palace developed in the Ming Tombs. It is the first planned excavation of the emperor's Mausoleum after the founding of the people's Republic of China. There are more than 3000 pieces of cultural relics unearthed from the underground palace, including four national treasures: golden crown, Phoenix crown, night pearl and three colors of the Ming Dynasty.
The underground palace of Dingling is made of stone, mostly bluestone, with an area of 1195 square meters. There is no beam in it. It is a stone arch, which is quite tall. In the underground palace, there are seven 4-ton white marble stone gates with ingenious design and flexible opening and closing. The underground palace is divided into main hall, auxiliary hall and front hall, which are exactly the same as the buildings on the ground. There are three white marble seats in the middle hall, in front of which there are a set of five yellow glazed vessels and a large blue and white porcelain VAT. The VAT was filled with lamp oil for lighting the Changming lamp. On the coffin bed of the back hall are the coffins of Zhu Yujun and the two queens. Beside the coffins are 26 red lacquer wooden boxes filled with funerary objects.
