Shoudu Library
The capital library is located in the East Third Ring of Chaoyang District, Beijing. It is a comprehensive large-scale public library in Beijing. It is a "national first-class library" assessed by the former Ministry of culture of the people's Republic of China, and one of the first batch of "national key protection units of ancient books".
The history of the capital library can be traced back to 1913. It was formed by the merging of the capital library branch, the capital popular library and the Central Park Book Reading Library, which were initiated by Lu Xun. After the Northern Expedition revolution, the original three libraries were renamed and merged several times, and became the first municipal library of Beijing. In 1953, they were renamed Beijing Municipal Library. In October 1956, they were officially named capital library.

Historical evolution
The predecessor of the capital library is the Beijing Library Branch, the Beijing popular library and the Central Park book reading office, which were established in June 1913, October 1913 and August 1917 respectively. The three libraries were founded under the care and guidance of Mr. Lu Xun. Mr. Lu Xun also personally attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing popular library, which was the first library for ordinary people in China after the 1911 Revolution.
From 1913 to 1926, the current situation was turbulent, the financial situation was unfavorable, the library was in a difficult situation, and there was no fixed place for the three libraries. In 1924, both the popular library and the Beijing library branch were moved to the former Hanlin academy lecture hall in Maotou Hutong, xuannei, which was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of education of Beijing government.
In 1925, the Ministry of education changed the Central Park library into the third ordinary Library of Beijing.
In 1926, the Ministry of education changed the name of the Beijing library branch to the first ordinary library and the popular library to the second ordinary library.
After the Northern Expedition revolution, the national government changed the capital into the special city of Beiping, and then the city of Beiping. The original three libraries were renamed, relocated and merged several times, and changed into the first municipal library of Beijing.
During the eight years of the Japanese occupation, the progressive books and periodicals of the library were burned and the business stopped. After the liberation of Beijing in 1949, the librarianship was reborn.
In 1953, it changed its name to Beijing Municipal Library and moved to No. 35 xihuamen street. The area of the library was expanded, and a Xidan Branch Library was added in Maotou Hutong.
In October 1956, the first municipal library of Beijing moved into the Imperial College of yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, and officially named capital library.
In 2001, the new capital library was officially opened.
In 2002, the library realized the joint retrieval, online reading, interlibrary loan and resource sharing with 11 district and county libraries and 33 Township and street libraries, and constructed the information service network platform of Beijing public library; as the Beijing Sub Center of the national cultural information sharing project, the capital library has opened dozens of grassroots sub centers.
In 2005, Beijing Children's library moved into the first phase of the library.
In November 2005, Beijing Municipal Development and Reform Commission officially approved the capital library phase II project, with a total investment of 460 million yuan.

Precious ancient books
According to the information on the library's official website in September 2018, the capital library has a collection of nearly 500000 ancient books (pieces), including more than 5200 rare books and more than 67000 volumes. The capital library specially selects rare and rare ancient books to be digitized, and builds the "image database of rare and rare ancient books" with detailed bibliographic data. All the ancient books collected in the database are precious ancient books and characteristic documents selected in the national precious ancient books list. 148 kinds of precious ancient books were included in the first five batches of national precious ancient books list, including abidamo shunzheng theory, Pilu dazang, Dafang Guangfo Huayan Sutra, mahaprajna Prajna paramita Sutra, ancient history 60 volumes, Mr. Hui'an's Zhuwen Gongxing 2 volumes, Zizhi Tongjian 294 volumes, Tongjian Shiwen biancuo 12 volumes, Tongjian Zonglei 20 volumes, tanglushu There are 30 volumes of Zhuan Yi and 12 volumes of Zhuan Yi.

According to the information on the library's official website in September 2018, the capital library has 12785 kinds of local literature collections and 27868 volumes (pieces), including 5307 kinds of books and 17331 volumes. The contents include local chronicles, official history, scientific works, investigation reports, compilation of documents, commemorative special issue, miscellaneous reports, notes, diaries, etc.

According to the information on the library's official website in September 2018, the capital library has more than 900000 items in 10 databases, including ordinary Chinese books, English books, electronic literature, Chinese and foreign newspapers, and Beijing local literature.
Support and guarantee
The capital library has an ancient book protection center, which undertakes the processing, collection and service of digital literature resources, organizes the protection of ancient books, carries out the census and registration of ancient books, ancient book restoration training and ancient book protection research.

Document development
In 2012, the book "ten years of inheritance: the 10th anniversary of the opening of the new capital library" was published by the capital library. Part of the book is the memories of the library staff for the past ten years, and part of the book is the academic papers written by the staff. It includes such articles as memories of fragments in ten years, Shoutu's ten years of education, innovation and development, Shoutu's ten years of new library's opening, and ten years of trade union work.
In 2015, the Capital Library completed the publication of the national ancient books census and registration catalogue and the Capital Library Ancient Books census and registration catalogue.
In 2015, capital library improved the construction of "Beijing public library computer information service network", formulated "Aleph system data merging rules" and "Bibliographic Database batch processing conversion rules", and compiled "Beijing Public Library Aleph500" The software operation manual covers 13 system modules, including acquisition, editing, circulation and serial publication.
