Xujiahui library is the earliest modern library in Shanghai. It is also the epitome of Western learning spreading to the East and eastern learning spreading to the West. It was incorporated into Shanghai Library in 1956. The existing Xujiahui library is two buildings crisscross north and south. The north building is of brick and wood structure, and its layout and bookshelves are in the style of Vatican library; the lower floor is in the style of Ningbo Tianyi Pavilion in Ming Dynasty. The south building, namely the priest building, has been rebuilt several times. Now it is a four story building with a slope top and veranda.
The library is only open on the first floor, where you can watch the exhibition; the second floor has not been open to the public for a long time, so readers need to rely on the introduction letter of the unit to access the information.
