Sanzao Island

Sanzao island is located in the southwest of Xiangzhou and the west of Wanshan archipelago. It is the largest island in Wanshan archipelago and the outlet of Modaomen and jitimen rivers. It is said that as early as the Ming Dynasty, there were three natural stone stoves in lankeng village. Fishermen often came here to make a fire and cook, so it was named. The island is composed of four unconnected peaks, namely, lanlang, Guanyin, Maotian and Huangzhu, and three Pingchuan rivers, namely, Sanzao, Zhongxin and Haicheng. The middle of the three Pingchuan rivers is low, and the highest lanlang mountain is 307 meters above sea level. The geological structure is granite.

Sanzao Island

Sanzao island is 28 kilometers southwest of Xiangzhou and west of Wanshan islands. It is the largest island in Wanshan islands and the outlet of Modaomen and jitimen rivers. It is about 6.5 km from nanshai in the West and 7.25 km from Gaolan island in the southwest. It is said that as early as the Ming Dynasty, there were three natural stone stoves in lankeng village. Fishermen often came here to make a fire and cook, so it was named.

Introduction to the island

Sanzao island was separated from Dalin river. In 1985, a one kilometer long seawall road was built to block the gate, leading directly to Dalin farm. The land area of the island is about 78 square kilometers, with 11300 people. In the northwest of the island, there are silted mudflats and some oyster fields, with mangroves between them. When the tide ebbs, large beaches dry out. In the southeast, there are Shawan rocky banks, with the longest Liantang Shawan of 2.8 km.

The island is composed of four unconnected peaks, namely, lanlang, Guanyin, Maotian and Huangzhu, and three Pingchuan rivers, namely, Sanzao, Zhongxin and Haicheng. The middle of the three Pingchuan rivers is low, and the highest lanlang mountain is 307 meters above sea level. The geological structure is granite. The land is fertile, the trees are green and the water source is sufficient. It mainly grows rice, sugarcane, peanuts and vegetables. And the development of freshwater fish culture and oyster production. Shantang reservoir is the main source of farmland irrigation and drinking water for residents in Sanzao, and most villages are equipped with tap water. The transportation is convenient. There are many boats and buses to and from Wanchai, Xiangzhou and Jingan every day.

The total length of highways on the island is 48 km, which can be used to connect all parts of the island. Xiaohengqin island faces each other through the door of Modao, and tongs strangle the door of Modao. Because of the important position of the island, foreign invaders invaded it repeatedly. In 1836, the British Opium merchants went to the island and shot the masses. Later, some British troops set up their flag on the island, surveyed the terrain, drew maps, and were driven away by the masses. After the Japanese occupied Sanzao island in 1938, an airport and a naval base were built on the island. There are "ten thousand tombs" and "one thousand tombs" on the island to commemorate the killing of the island's residents by the Japanese aggressors from March 13 to 14 of the 1938 lunar calendar, as well as the remains of the airport built by the Japanese aggressors when they invaded China. Current situation of island development

Now a long dike has been built to connect with the land, which has become an important economic development zone of Zhuhai City. Zhuhai Sanzao airport is located at the south end of Sanzao Island, surrounded by the sea on three sides, with good clearance, 31 km northeast of the city. The overall planning, design and construction of the airport are carried out in strict accordance with the international first-class civil airport standards. Its runway, terminal building, communication and navigation system, fuel supply and safety have reached the international advanced level. The airport has a runway of 4000 meters long and 60 meters wide, and a taxiway of 4000 meters long and 44 meters wide, which can be used for taking off and landing of various types of passenger aircraft in the world. The terminal building covers an area of 92000 square meters, with a comprehensive hall, a waiting hall and a viewing hall. The arrival and departure passengers are separated. The airport adopts large screen flight display and approach system, equipment control and management computer system, passenger service electronic computing system and automatic baggage sorting system of the United States and Sweden. Since its opening, the airport has been operating well, and is constantly improving its level, striving to create a modern airport with "first-class management, first-class service, first-class operation and absolute safety". Zhuhai Sanzao airport is the site of China International Aerospace Expo.

Sanzao is the location of Sanzao Science and Technology Industrial Park in Zhuhai national high tech Zone. It has formed an industrial system with medicine, electrical appliances, medical devices and precision manufacturing as the pillar industries.

Original name

Sanzao town is located in the southwest of Zhuhai City, between Modaomen and jitimen. It is the largest island in Wanshan archipelago. There have been different opinions on the origin of the name of Sanzao since ancient times. Some people say that it got its name from the three small natural stoves on the island. Some people say that there were three beacon towers on the island. The fishermen nearby took the beacon towers as three big stoves, so the name of the three stoves came from it. However, the former is more popular in today's Sanzao area.

The stream flows through the natural stone stove

Some old people in Sanzao town say that in ancient times, Sanzao island was just an isolated island in the ancient Lingdingyang ocean. The island was deserted and uninhabited. Fishermen from the sea often stayed on the island, or took water to quench their thirst, or built stoves to cook. Over time, fishermen found a concave stone of one meter square near the island bank. Due to long-term seawater invasion, three notches formed on the concave stone It's just like three small stoves. Beside the small stoves, there is a gurgling stream. It's sweet and delicious. The fishermen are very happy. These three small stoves not only save them the trouble of building stoves, but also save them the hardship of long journey to find fresh water. A few years later, fishermen moved to live on the island one after another, and Sanzao island became lively day by day. Because Sanzao island was still an unnamed island at that time, when these craftsmen went back to describe the place they went to, they said it was a place with three small stoves. Over time, people used to call this island Sanzao. Thus came the name of Sanzao.

When people come to settle down:

According to historical records, as early as the Southern Song Dynasty, some ancestors settled in Sanzao island. People from Doumen, Xinhui, Zhongshan and other places fled to Sanzao island from 1480 to 1500 A.D. (Chenghua and Hongzhi years of Ming Dynasty). These people, who were slandered as "traitors", "defectors in exile" and "outlaws", opened Sanzao island with their own wisdom and labor.

On November 21, 1949, Sanzao island was liberated. On December 12, 1988, in order to develop Daxi District, Zhuhai city established Sanzao management area. Before that, Sanzao town was subordinate to Xiangzhou District. On April 4, 2001, with the approval of the State Council, Doumen County was abolished and Doumen District and Jinwan District of Zhuhai City were established. Sanzao Town, originally under the jurisdiction of Sanzao Management District, was assigned to the newly established Jinwan District
