Harbin Engineering University, founded in 1953 as the Military Engineering College of the Chinese people's Liberation Army ("Harbin military industry"), is now under the Ministry of industry and information technology of the people's Republic of China. It is jointly built by the science, technology and Industry Commission for national defense, the Ministry of education, the navy of the Chinese people's Liberation Army and the Heilongjiang provincial government. Military Engineering College of PLA

From December 16, 1949 to February 17, 1950, when Mao Zedong, then chairman of the CPC Central Committee, visited the Soviet Union, the first higher military technology institution of the people's Republic of China was established by the two sides.

On June 23, 1952, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and Peng Dehuai met Chen Geng in the small conference room of Huairen Hall in Zhongnanhai, and ordered Chen Geng to establish the Military Engineering College of the Chinese people's Liberation Army (hereinafter referred to as Harbin military engineering college) in Harbin on the basis of the second advanced Infantry School of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, the scientific research office of the East China military region and some cadres of the third corps of the Chinese people's Volunteer Army.

According to Zhou Enlai's requirements for early talents and early achievements, President Chen Geng put forward the "three sides" policy of building, teaching and learning at the same time. On September 1, 1953, the Military Engineering College of the Chinese people's Liberation Army was officially established, and Mao Zedong issued a lecture for the establishment of the college. The college has five departments, namely, Air Force Engineering Department, Artillery Engineering Department, Naval Engineering Department, armored engineering department and engineering engineering department.

In 1959, the Academy of military engineering was designated as one of the 20 key universities in China.

From 1960 to 1962, the Academy of military engineering was rebuilt. The Artillery Engineering Department moved to Wuchang, merged with Wuchang advanced ordnance technology school, established Artillery Engineering College, and soon moved to Nanjing (now Nanjing University of Technology); the armored Engineering Department moved to Xi'an, established armored engineering college. The Engineering Department moved to Xi'an and then to Nanjing, now the Engineering Department of PLA University of science and technology; the Department of atomic chemical protection moved to Changchun and established the Chemical Defense Academy (now the Chemical Defense Command Engineering Academy); the airport architecture and meteorology of the Air Force Engineering Department were transferred to the air force meteorology school; the school successively established the atomic Engineering Department, the missile engineering department and the electronic engineering department Department of engineering, Department of computer engineering.

On April 1, 1966, Harbin military industry withdrew from the army and changed its name to Harbin Institute of engineering, under the leadership of the national defense science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of national defense (hereinafter referred to as the national defense science and Technology Commission).

In 1970, the State Council and the Central Military Commission decided that part of the cadres and teachers of the Department of Naval Engineering of Harbin Institute of technology and other departments of military industry should be transferred to the leadership of the Sixth Ministry of machinery industry (later China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation), and Harbin Institute of shipbuilding engineering should be established at the original site of "Harbin military industry". The Department of Aeronautical Engineering moved to Xi'an, merged into the Department of aircraft engineering of Northwestern Polytechnic University, and now developed into the aeronautical College of Northwestern Polytechnic University; the Department of electronic engineering, the Department of missile engineering, the Department of computer engineering, the Department of basic courses and the institutions of the College moved to Changsha, and established Changsha Institute of Technology (now the National Defense University of science and Technology).

In 1978, Harbin Institute of shipbuilding engineering was designated as a national key university by the State Education Commission.

In November 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first units with the right to confer doctoral and master's degrees.

The period of Harbin Engineering University

In April 1994, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, Harbin Institute of Shipbuilding Engineering changed its name to Harbin Engineering University.

In 1996, the school passed the preliminary examination of "211 Project" and became one of the first batch of construction schools of "211 Project".

In 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the university to set up a graduate school on a trial basis; the Ministry of science and technology and the Ministry of Education approved the university to start the construction of "National University Science and Technology Park"; the former Commission of science, technology and industry for national defense and the Heilongjiang provincial government determined that the university should implement key joint construction.

In 2003, the graduate school was officially listed.

In 2006, he was selected into the National College Students' cultural quality education base.

In 2007, the former national defense science and Technology Commission, the Ministry of education, Heilongjiang provincial government and the Navy jointly built Harbin Engineering University.

In 2008, the school was under the management of the Ministry of industry and information technology of the people's Republic of China. In the same year, he was selected into the subject innovation and talent introduction plan of colleges and universities

In June 2010, it was selected into the first batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education.

In 2011, it became the national "985 Project" advantage discipline innovation platform project construction university.

In May 2012, it was rated as a national university with typical employment experience by the Ministry of education.

In September, the first batch of universities selected into the National College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan were implemented.

In January 2017, it was recognized by the Ministry of education as one of the first batch of national demonstration universities to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. In June, Harbin military industry cultural park of Harbin Engineering University was rated as a national 3A scenic spot, which is the first national scenic spot of universities in Heilongjiang Province; Harbin Military Industry Memorial Hall was selected as the third national defense education demonstration base. In July, it was rated as a national university with typical experience in innovation and entrepreneurship by the Ministry of education. In September, it was selected as a world-class discipline construction university. In December, it was selected as the national innovation and entrepreneurship base of university practice education.

In March 2018, the school was selected into the first batch of "national new engineering research and practice projects" by the Ministry of education. In July, the University was selected as the national innovative talent training demonstration base of the Ministry of science and technology.

In the same year, it became a University jointly built by the Ministry of industry and information technology of the people's Republic of China and the State Oceanic Administration.

In March 2019, it will become a University jointly built by Ministry of industry and information technology, Ministry of education, Heilongjiang Provincial People's government and Harbin Municipal People's government.

In December, Harbin Engineering University signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement with China Shipbuilding Corporation.

In May 2020, Southampton Ocean Engineering College of Harbin Engineering University was established.
