Yunmen temple is located in the north of Ruyuan County, Shaoguan City, Guangdong Province, 50 kilometers away from Shaoguan City. Yunmen temple was built in 923 A.D. in the first year of Tongguang in the late Tang Dynasty. It is the birthplace of Yunmen sect, which was founded by Zen master Wenyan, the seventh disciple of Huineng. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, the temples were almost deserted. In the winter of 1943, monk Xu Yun, a famous monk who had just completed the renovation of Nanhua temple, went to Yunmen temple to preside over the reconstruction of the temple. It took nine years to build 180 halls and more than 80 new statues, reviving the style of Yunmen sect. In 1983, Yunmen temple and Nanhua temple were designated as national key temples at the same time. There are Xuyun Memorial Hall and relic tower in Yunmen temple. Houshan is a famous scenic spot of Osmanthus fragrans. On the cliff of tens of meters, the waterfall flows down to the deep pool. The hillsides around the pool are covered with Osmanthus fragrans trees. In August and September, the mountains and valleys are filled with Osmanthus fragrans fragrance, which is intoxicating. The newly built stone tablet square of Dajue temple in Yunmen is 12 meters high. On the inner wall of the mountain gate, there are some important steles, such as the famous first year of Dabao (958) of the Southern Han Dynasty, the stele of real nature of guru kuangzhen of Guangtai Buddhist temple in Yunmen, Shaozhou, the Great Han Dynasty, which are precious Buddhist relics. Half a mile away from the temple, there is Haihui tower, surrounded by dozens of halls and houses, which can accommodate 100 people. It is now a place for women to study. The memorial hall of monk Xuyun and the relic pagoda were built in the back mountain. The forest spring is beautiful, which can be used for monks to read sutras after closing the door. In front of the temple, there are Guanyin Mountain, osmanthus Lake scenic spot, osmanthus tide, chumishi, jiuxianyan, cibeifeng, tiegushan and other scenic spots, flowing springs and waterfalls, steep mountains and rocks, osmanthus fragrance and beautiful scenery.
Yunmen Temple

The origin of temples
Yunmen Temple originated from Wenyan. Wenyan (864-949), a native of Jiaxing (present-day Zhejiang), is a native of Zhejiang Province. After becoming a monk, he went to various places to study. At the beginning, he took part in muzhou Road, and later he took part in Yicun, and obtained Yinke. After the death of Huineng, the sixth patriarch of Zen, there were two legal systems: huairang in Nanyue, Hunan and Xingsi in Qingyuan, Jiangxi. By the end of Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, the Nanyue school had formed two schools, namely, Fuyang school and Linji school. The Qingyuan school had three schools, namely, caodong school, Yunmen school and fayan school.
The inheritance of yunmenzong is: qingyuanshanxingsi - Daowu - Chongxin - xuanjian - Yicun - Wenyan. After Wenyan got the seal of yicunke in Guangfu courtyard of Xuefeng, xianggushan, Fuzhou, he came to Yunmen mountain, Shaozhou, to repair the broken Guangtai Zen courtyard, and created his own style of Yunmen Buddhism. Its unique way of preaching is called "Cloud Gate three sentences". According to Wu Deng Hui Yuan, "I have three words to show you to all of you.
One sentence covers the universe, one cuts off the flow of people, one follows the waves. "If you understand these three sentences, you can enter the Tao.
Reconstruction period
In 1943, Xu Yun, a famous monk in modern times, came to Yunmen temple from Caoxi, Guangdong Province. Seeing that the ancient temple was in disrepair and dilapidated, but the body of ancestor Wenyan was still there, he vowed to revive Yunmen ancestral court. With the efforts of master Xu Yun, more than 300 halls and pavilions and more than 100 statues of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas were built successively from 1943 to 1951. He preached Buddhist precepts in peace, performed Buddhism and promoted Buddhism, and revived Buddhism. Since 1953, master Xuyun's disciple Foyuan succeeded the abbot of Dajue temple in Yunmen. He paid equal attention to agriculture and Zen, and raised the temple with the temple. During the cultural revolution, Buddhism stopped.
In 1983, the State Council designated Dajue temple as the national key Temple of Han Buddhism, which was valued and protected by the government. The Dajue temple was handed over to the Buddhist community for management and use. Master Foyuan returned to Yunmen to rebuild the temple, remodel the Buddha statues and resume Buddhist activities. From October 15 to 17 of the lunar calendar in 1986, the Dharma preaching meeting was held in Dajue temple. More than 800 people were subject to the commandments of becoming a monk and staying at home. Master Foyuan, the abbot of Yunmen temple, master benhuan, the abbot of Guangxiao temple in Guangzhou, and master Shengyi, the abbot of Baolian temple on Lantau Island in Hong Kong, served as preachers respectively.
Main building
Due to the serious destruction of Yunmen temple during the cultural revolution, in 1984, with the support of the government and the support of believers at home and abroad, large-scale reconstruction of Yunmen temple was carried out again.
After restoration, the main buildings of Yunmen temple include Tianwang hall, Daxiong hall, Dharma hall, sutra collection building, guest hall, bell tower, Gongde hall, Drum Tower, Jialan hall, Yanshou hall, zushi hall, Zen hall, etc. in addition, Xuyun monk memorial hall, relic tower, Mountain Gate, Buddhist Scripture circulation place, pavilion, etc. Buddha statues are created in the hall. In front of Sakyamuni statue in Daxiong hall, there are two Buddha statues standing one by one For example, it is carved out of pure Burmese white marble; the large-scale colored porcelain Buddha face inlaid in the four walls has 18 Arhats at the bottom and 24 gods at the top, which are very rare in Buddhist temples in China.

In front of Sakyamuni in the main hall, there are two small white marble statues, one standing and one lying, which were given by Myanmar Buddhists in 1798. They are carved with pure Burmese white marble. The whole body is smooth and looks like a real person's skin. They are treasures of Yunmen temple.
On the three walls of the hall are large-scale painted ceramic Buddha paintings, 24 meters long and 4 meters high, which are unique in China's current Buddhist temples. It vividly depicts 42 characters of 18 Arhats and 24 heavenly kings. The lower part of the picture is 18 Arhats, and the upper part is 24 heavenly statues.
