The old tea shop in mashiba street of Pengzhen is said to be an old building in the Ming Dynasty. It has been used as a tea shop for at least 100 years. Local people call it "Guanyin Pavilion". There is a legend about the origin of this name: about 100 years ago, a big fire broke out in Pengzhen (then called pengjiachang), and almost the whole town was burnt out, but the tea shop survived. There is a popular saying that the tea shop is the place where Guanyin Bodhisattva steps on. Later, the common people called the tea shop Guanyin Pavilion, and they also served Guanyin Bodhisattva in the tea shop. This hundred year old tea shop was originally a temple where Fengshen burned incense. It was called "Guanyin Pavilion". Later it was changed into a tea shop.
Tiger stove is the essence of this tea shop. On the stove, there are several old teapots with changed bottom. On the other end of the stove, there are neat and clean water cups. Next to the tiger stove, there are water tanks made of several bluestone slabs, which are full of well water from the ground. The water tanks are covered with moss, as if telling its past.
Although the quotations, slogans and characteristic pictures on the wall have traces from the Post-70s generation, they are relatively far away and fuzzy. For people before 70, the touch of their soul here is more practical and interlinked.
Some people come here to chat and listen to the radio; others buy some vegetables and then sit in the tea shop to choose vegetables; others sit around and play local cards, and others come here in a daze. Now, a large group of reporters are gathering here to have a bowl of old tea to narrate the tradition here.
