Development history

Shipaiwan country park was originally a farm. In 1940s, it was used by the Catholic Jesuit Church to cultivate orphans and unemployed youth. In 1962, the agriculture and Forestry Research Committee of Portuguese overseas provinces was established, which took over the farm and started the research work on agriculture and animal husbandry. Since 1976, it has been managed by the Department of agriculture and forestry.

In 1981, the Australian and Portuguese government designated this area as a protected area, and then began to use it as a country park in November 1984. Shipaiwan country park was opened by Portuguese President Antonio lamarho ayanes on May 28, 1985, becoming the first country park in Macao. From 1986 to 1989, the government handed over the park to the "Hong Tao club". Until January 1990, the government managed the park itself and added some facilities.

Historical relics

Portuguese small aircraft: the small aircraft, named "salois", crashed when it returned to Portugal from Macao in 1987. After maintenance, it was sent to Macao by Portugal for display.

Old locomotive: a tool for mining and transporting stones in the past. One skeleton specimen of Brandt's whale and one skeleton specimen of Chinese white dolphin.

There are five exhibition areas in the two venues of the land and nature museum. The contents of the exhibition areas are: Macao's physical geography, past farming tools, farmers' labor situation, animal and plant specimens and medicinal plants. The introduction of the exhibition area is mainly in words (in Chinese and Portuguese), pictures, specimen models and real objects, with audio-visual equipment for visitors.

Botanical Garden

Arboretum: up to 40 families (more than 100 species) of trees are planted, which is the gene pool of tree species in Macao.

Medicinal botanical garden: it has planted wild herbs with medical effect in Macao, including Plumeria, loquat, etc.

Interesting different botanical garden: 29 kinds of special plants are planted, including Kandelia candel (viviparous plant), Nepenthes (carnivorous plant), etc.

Fragrant flower Botanical Garden: 32 kinds of fragrant plants are planted, including Osmanthus fragrans, rose, jasmine, lotus, Magnolia, etc.

Foreign seed exchange trial area: foreign plant varieties have been planted, including Taiwan Koelreuteria, strawberry, guava, etc.
