Historical evolution
In 1921, when Yang Sen was building Jiangbei Wharf Road, he planned to build a steel bridge on Jialing River.
In 1929 and during the Anti Japanese War, the municipal authorities of the national government also made plans to build bridges on the Jialing River many times.
In 1946, Chongqing formulated the draft ten year plan for the construction of the capital. Later, Mao Yisheng, a master of modern bridge engineering in China, completed the preliminary design of Liangjiang bridge under the entrustment of the municipal government. Among them, the Yangtze River Bridge is located from dongshuimen wharf to xialonghao, with a total length of 982 meters; the Jialing River Bridge is located between Zeng Jiayan and Chen Jiaguan (near the other bank of chunsen), with a total length of 500 meters. Due to lack of funds, the two bridges have not been started as planned.
In 1948, Yang Sen, then mayor of the city, decided to build the Jialing River Bridge with less investment first because he thought that the construction of the two river bridge at the same time was not allowed in terms of manpower and material resources.
On January 16, 1949, Chongqing gentry held a foundation laying ceremony for the Jialing River Bridge in Cangbai hall, Cangbai road. The ceremony was presided over by Yang Sen. At this time, the design of the Jialing River Bridge has been slightly adjusted - it is planned to build from Cangbai road to Jiangbei Shuifu palace, with a total length of 460 meters.
After the liberation, the development of new Chongqing is changing with each passing day. The original "mother city" in the Central District of Chongqing (now the Central District of Chongqing) is very small, and the city needs to expand. At this time, the rapid development of Jiangbei area, a large number of factories, bridge repair was put on the agenda again. Experts from the bridge bureau of the Ministry of Railways came to Chongqing to select the bridge site for Chongqing. After careful investigation, experts selected two suitable locations for bridge construction, namely Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge and gaojiahuayuan Jialing River Bridge. The municipal government decided to launch the former, which connects Shizhong District and Jiangbei District, and costs less.
In November 1958, the construction of the bridge entered the site and started in December. At that time, Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge was designed by Wuhan Design Office of Bridge Engineering Bureau of Ministry of railways. The bridge bureau of the Ministry of railways, which built the Xiaonanhai railway bridge in Chongqing, sent people to support it. Chongqing offered to appoint experts from the Ministry of Railways as the principal and Chongqing officials as the deputy.
In October 1960, due to "three years of natural disasters", the bridge was shut down.
In early 1964, the bridge resumed construction again. At that time, the construction environment of Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge was very difficult: without heavy lifting equipment, Jack was used; without large floating boats, small boats were used; without modern machines and tools, manual operation was used; the cement and steel used for bridge construction were extremely scarce, "the cement should be used as gold and the weight should be used".
In November 1965, Deng xiaoping visited Chongqing. When he came, only the approach bridge of Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge had been repaired. Knowing that Deng Xiaoping was going to walk across the bridge, the workers used wooden boards to build a road on the main bridge overnight.
On January 20, 1966, Niujiaotuo Jialing River Bridge was officially opened to traffic.
In 1975, Mr. Li Deyi, the chief calligrapher of Chongqing Museum, was invited to inscribe the bridge.
In order to prevent the bad guys from damaging, troops were stationed on the bridge. It was not until the 1980s that the garrison withdrew.
In 2009, Niujiaotuo Jialingjiang bridge was listed as a municipal cultural relics protection unit.
In December 2017, the 410 day overhaul and emergency rescue project of Jialingjiang bridge began.
