Yan Fu's former residence is located in the big lion Hutong of ancient culture street. In order to explore the history and culture, we have visited the descendants and historical experts of Mr. Yan Fu, combined with landscape design, built Tianyan square in the original site of Yan Fu's former residence, set up Yanfu bronze statue and tianyanlun stone carvings.

Yan Fu (1854-1921), a Marquis of Fujian (now Marquis of Fujian), was renamed song Guang. His name was Youling and Jiji. In his later years, his name was Yuye Yuye old man. Huxley's tianyanlun is famous in modern Chinese ideological circles for its translation. He is a representative of the reformists in modern China. He uses evolutionism as a weapon to awaken people to "strive for self-improvement and protect their species" and save the nation from danger. Chairman Mao Zedong named him as "a group of people who seek truth from the west before the birth of the Communist Party of China" (Mao Zedong's on the people's democratic dictatorship) ）They are as famous as Hong Xiuquan, Kang Youwei and Sun Yat Sen. Yan Fu also founded Guowen Bao in Tianjin, actively promoting reform and strengthening, leaving a brilliant page in modern Chinese history.

"Tianyan theory" -- the old name of biological evolution. Yan Fu, a modern educator and thinker in China, translated the first two chapters of the Book Evolution and ethics and other essays written by Huxley in England. The book is named as the theory of evolution. Yan Fu attached a note to his translation to express his own opinions and put it in order. In the preface, he said that this book "pays three respects to self-improvement and seed preservation". The book was translated into Chinese in 1895 and published in 1898.

"Tianyanlun" systematically introduces Darwin's theory of evolution. With the simple language of "natural selection, survival of the fittest", it introduces the principle of biological evolution and the theory of "survival of the fittest". The purpose is to show that if China can comply with the rules of "Tianyan" (the principle of natural evolution) and carry out reform, it will become stronger from the weak, otherwise the nation will be extinct and eliminated. This book is one of the earliest books in modern China that directly introduces western bourgeois thoughts. The translation of the book provided a theoretical basis for the reform and Reform in China at that time. The place where Yan Fu wrote this book is the big lion alley in our ancient culture street.
