Zhongshan Road

Zhongshan Road, located in the main city of Nanjing, is the earliest Zhongshan Road in China. It was built to welcome Dr. Sun Yat Sen's coffin and got its name from it.

In a broad sense, Zhongshan Road refers to Zhongshan Avenue which is composed of Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan Road, Zhongshan East Road and Zhongshan South Road. Zhongshan Avenue is the first modern and advanced urban trunk road in China, with a total length of 12 kilometers. When it was completed, it was the longest street in the world, known as the "meridian of the Republic of China".

In a narrow sense, Zhongshan Road refers to the road from Gulou square to Xinjiekou square, which is about 2000 meters long. On both sides of the road are Jiangsu Radio and Television City, Gulou Hospital, Nanjing University, Nanjing Metro building, Jinling middle school, Nanjing People's middle school, Jinling Hotel, Deji square and other important buildings and institutions.

Historical evolution

The Zhongshan Avenue in Nanjing was built to welcome Dr. Sun Yat Sen's coffin, which is the earliest Zhongshan Avenue in China. It is composed of Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan Road, Zhongshan East Road and Zhongshan South Road.

In 1928, shortly after the national government unified the whole country, it began to prepare for the transfer of Dr. Sun Yat Sen's body from Beiping to Nanjing. The capital construction committee planned to build a Yingling Avenue and renamed Chaoyang Gate Zhongshan Gate. Zhongshan Gate to the east of Zhongshan Mausoleum, known as Lingyuan Road, West to the Yangtze River side of Zhongshan pier, known as Zhongshan Road, which is now often referred to as "Zhongshan Avenue".

In 1933, with Gulou and Xinjiekou as the nodes, Zhongshan Avenue was divided into three sections: Zhongshan North Road, Zhongshan Road and Zhongshan East Road, with a total length of nearly 13 kilometers. It was the first asphalt road in Nanjing.

Zhongshan Avenue is a beautiful architecture landscape of the Republic of China. There are many Wutong trees on both sides of the road. The important organs of the country are located nearby, such as the former site of the national Navy, the former Department of communications of the national government, the joint headquarters of the national government, the old site of the Ministry of foreign affairs of the national government, the Drum Tower Hospital, the former site of the judiciary of the national government, the The Anne Boleyn Hotel, and the historical materials of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang. The former site of the museum, the Central Museum, the former site of the inspirational society, etc. After 1949, Zhongzheng road to the south of Xinjiekou was renamed Zhongshan South Road. Zhongshan is the basic framework of Nanjing Road, which is called "meridian of the Republic of China".

Zhongshan Road

Zhongshan Road, located in the center of Nanjing, is a north-south trunk road with a length of 2km and a width of 40m. From Xinjiekou square in the south to Gulou square in the north, together with Zhongyang Road in the north and Zhongshan Road in the south, it forms the North-South main axis of Nanjing. The road intersects Changjiang Road Huaqiao Road, Zhujiang Road Guangzhou road and Xuefu Road. Built in 1929, it is a part of Yingling Avenue with a total length of 20 kilometers from Xiaguan Zhongshan wharf to Zhongshan Mausoleum. Wutong, a wild profusion of vegetation, is a very wide and straight road. There are two rows of tall Platanus trees (Platanus orientalis) on the sides. The southern section is a part of Xinjiekou business district, the first business district in China. Since the 1990s, most of the roads have been rebuilt into high-rise buildings, with only a small number of buildings left in the Republic of China.

It starts from Xinjiekou square in the west, reaches Zhongshan Gate in the East, and forms the East-West main axis of Nanjing with Hanzhong Road in the West. It intersects with Hongwu Road, Taiping Road, Longpan Middle Road, Huangpu Road and Yudao street
