Empress Dou's Mausoleum
Empress Dou's mausoleum is located in Bailuyuan, Baqiao District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. Empress Dou was the wife of Liu Heng, Emperor Wen of Han Dynasty, and the mother of Liu Qi, Emperor Jing. In 156 BC, King Liu Qi ascended the throne. She was honored as the Empress Dowager and lived in the throne for 40 or 50 years. In the sixth year of Jianyuan (135 BC), empress Dou died and was buried in the south of Bailuyuan. She was separated from Emperor Wen's baling at both ends of the yuan and was buried together. Because of its location in the south of baling, it is called Nanyuan.
Overview of the cemetery
Empress Dou's mausoleum was built on the flat ground, which was shaped like a covered bucket. The top and bottom of the earth seal were nearly square. Some of the ruins of the city walls on the West and south walls of the mausoleum still exist. A large number of architectural remains were found in the cemetery, including bamboo tiles, board tiles and cloud pattern tiles of the Western Han Dynasty. Near the mausoleum, there are kilns dedicated to building bricks and tiles for the mausoleum. In the eastern part of the cemetery, pottery pots, painted pottery pots and animal bones such as horses, cattle and sheep were unearthed from the burial pits. Empress Dou's Mausoleum provides important information for the study of the Han Dynasty tomb system.
