Shen Jiaben's former residence
Shen Jiaben's former residence. It is located in Jinjing Hutong, Xuanwu District. Shen Jiaben lived here after he came to Beijing in 1900. The former residence faces south with a rectangular plane, 56 meters long from north to South and 29 meters long from east to west.
Shen Jiaben's former residence is now a cultural relic protection unit of Xuanwu District.

Layout of former residence
There are three courtyards. The main building is built on the North-South central line in the West. There are two gatehouses and six inverted rooms on both sides of the door.
The main room of the first entrance is composed of three halls, three West ear rooms, and the East ear room is expanded into five two-story buildings. It is a Chinese Western brick and wood structure. It is a book collection building built by Shen Jiaben in the 31st year of Guangxu. It is self titled "zhenbi building" and contains more than 50000 books. There is a reception hall downstairs.
Second, the main room of the hospital is five rooms wide, three East and West rooms, two wing rooms and two ear rooms.
The front of the backyard is covered with eight rooms. On the east side are two small courtyards with three rooms in the south.
The basic pattern of the former residence remains unchanged. Later, it was a residential building.
Personage introduction
Shen Jiaben (1840-1913), a native of Gui'an (now Wuxing) in Zhejiang Province, was a Jinshi in the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. He served successively as the left servant of the Ministry of punishment, the Zhengqing of Dali temple, the right servant of the Ministry of justice, and the vice president of the State Council. He was the host and representative of the revision of laws in the late Qing Dynasty.
At the same time, he introduced the modern western legal ideas and formulated the legal system in line with the spirit of the times, which played an important role in the development of modern Chinese legal system. His manuscript, the posthumous letter of Mr. Shen Jizhen, has become an important document for the study of ancient Chinese law. "Zhenbilou" is the library in the former residence, with a collection of more than 50000 volumes. In 1990, Shen Jiaben's former residence was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Xuanwu District.
Honors
In November 2019, it was named "the second batch of national legal publicity and education bases" by the national law popularization office.
