Culture
Jianzhen, originally named Chunyu, was born in Guangling (now Yangzhou). At the age of 14, he became a monk and received the "great commandment" at the age of 22. Later, he became the abbot of Daming Temple and specialized in the commandment. In the first year of Tang Tianbao, at the invitation of Rong Rui, Puzhao and other Japanese monks studying abroad, Jianzhen sailed eastward. Because of the underdeveloped means of transportation and various social excuses at that time, five eastward expeditions ended in failure.
In the early autumn of the 12th year of Tianbao, Jianzhen, who was 66 years old at that time, regardless of his blindness and the hardships of the journey, resolutely led his disciples to set sail in huangsipu in the west wind, and began his sixth eastward voyage. The emperor finally succeeded in his sixth eastward voyage. Jianzhen and his party landed in the south of Kyushu, Japan. The next year, Jianzhen built the altar and taught the precepts in Tokyo's Dongda temple, During the ten years from his death, Jianzhen lived in Nara, the founder of Japanese law school, and his actions had far-reaching influence. He not only planned to build the Tang zhaoti Temple (later respected as a national treasure in Japan), but also introduced Chinese architecture, sculpture skills, Chinese phonology, printing, medicine and so on to Japan, He has made outstanding contributions to the cultural exchanges between China and Japan, thus being respected by the Japanese government and the people of China and Japan from generation to generation.
