The Shangcheng museum is located in Yanshi City, 30 kilometers east of Luoyang City, Henan Province. Yanshi Shangcheng museum is the only historical museum in China that focuses on the study, display and publicity of Xia and Shang Dynasties. The museum is located in the southwest corner of Yanshi City, 100 meters east of Yanshi Shangcheng site. The museum is an antique palace complex with the hall in the middle and the corridor connected. It was completed in 1987 and officially opened to the public. It covers an area of 16000 square meters, a construction area of 5500 square meters, an exhibition room area of 2500 square meters, an exhibition line length of 470 meters, and a collection of more than 20000 cultural relics (sets). With a scientific management system, rich display contents, novel display forms, perfect service facilities and beautiful appreciation environment, the museum can be called "the Pearl of western Henan and the treasure house of China".
The main exhibition in the museum is the "Civilization Exhibition of Xia and Shang capitals", which mainly displays the cultural relics unearthed from the two earliest capital sites in China, namely, Xiadu Chongyi (Erlitou cultural site in Yanshi) and Shangdu Xibo (Shangcheng site in Yanshi) over the years, so as to make people understand the nature, scale, city, cultural features of these two capitals, as well as their influence on Chinese history and ancient culture In order to further promote the Chinese civilization, we should have a better understanding of the history of the capital, the history of the development of the ancient capital and the history of Chinese culture.
The museum has nearly ten thousand cultural relics, mainly including bronze, jade, ivory, bone, gold and silver, lacquer, pottery, etc. In addition, we have collected nearly 1000 pieces of stele statues, stone epitaphs and Turquoise micro carvings, including stone portraits of the Western Han Dynasty, steles of emperor Shangfu in Gan Mausoleum of the Han Dynasty, stone coupons for buying land by Shi Tingli and his father in the second year of the founding of the people's Republic of China, steles of the Northern Wei Dynasty and the Northern Qi Dynasty, and niches for statues.
There are a large number of ritual vessels and living utensils unearthed from Erlitou site and Yanshi Shangcheng site, such as: provincial reticulated bronze tripod, milk nail bronze Baron, bronze cup, bronze weapon, large seven hole jade knife, jade Yue, jade Zhang, jade boat and characteristic pottery tripod. Pottery vessels, pottery vessels and other daily utensils, as well as Taotie pattern Bronze Zun, dragon pattern bronze vessel, bronze Ge, bronze vessel, copper wok, as well as jade, ivory and pottery unearthed from Yanshi shopping mall. The palace model of the second generation of Xia and Shang Dynasties is restored in the museum, which is equipped with drawing boards, photos and text descriptions. The museum also holds temporary exhibitions such as "treasures of past dynasties", "three colors of Tang Dynasty", "Buddhist art" and "Chinese currency of past dynasties".
As a wonderful work of Chinese sculpture art, stone carving has a long history in China. The second phase project of Yanshi Shangcheng Museum, the stone carving art gallery, has an exhibition area of 1500 square meters. There are 200 stone carvings unearthed in Yanshi area over the years, including steles, statues, wengzhong and epitaphs. Among them, there are many famous calligraphy steles, font steles and historical materials steles, such as "shitingli father's land purchase certificate" in Eastern Han Dynasty and "Feizhi" in Taoism The stone tablet, the Xiping stone Scripture (fragment) by Cai Yong, the tombstone of XunYue in the Western Jin Dynasty, the statue tablet of Zhai xingzu in the fourth year of Zhengguang in the Northern Wei Dynasty, and the epitaph of Guo Xuji written by Yan Zhenqing in the Tang Dynasty show the brilliant achievements of Chinese Literature, history, art, science, politics and life in thousands of years.
On December 5, 2016, the National Tourism Administration announced that the 3A scenic spot of Yanshi Shangcheng museum was downgraded.

The East and West exhibition rooms are temporary exhibitions.
