Anfengshan martyrs cemetery is located about 16 kilometers southwest of Donghai County, Jiangsu Province. Construction started in February 1994, and was basically completed in 1998. It was opened to the public in April of the same year. It covers an area of 69300 square meters and a construction area of 33300 square meters. The cemetery mainly includes anfengshan memorial tower, Donghai County revolutionary martyrs memorial hall, anfengshan memorial to the martyrs of the boycott war, "breakthrough" statue, relief project and so on.

history

Anfengshan martyrs cemetery is located on anfengshan, about 16 kilometers southwest of Donghai County. It was built in memory of the martyrs who died in the anfengshan incident. In June 1946, the Kuomintang army invaded our Liberated Areas on a large scale. In October, the 74th and 28th divisions of the Kuomintang army occupied Lianshui and Shuyang, and our army made a strategic shift. Three or four thousand cadres and their families from Subei, Shuyang, Donghai, Guanyun and other county-level organs and special geological institutions in Huaihai District withdrew from Shandong. In February 1947, according to the requirements of the East China Bureau, the cadres who withdrew from the north had to return to Huaihai District in the South and persist in the struggle. As the "front office of Huaihai District in Shandong" was not clear about the route of returning to the south, and the organization was loose, when the cadres arrived at the foot of Anfeng mountain, they were surrounded by the 28th division of the Kuomintang army. Although the cadres and members tried their best to break through the encirclement, they were still captured, missing and injured nearly 1000 people. This is the "Anfeng mountain incident", also known as the second South Anhui Incident. "Anfengshan incident" is the biggest loss of our army in the northern Jiangsu liberation war.

Layout of scenic spots

In order to remember the martyrs, inspire future generations and fulfill the long cherished wish of the older generation of revolutionaries and the masses, the county government built the martyrs' cemetery on Anfeng mountain in 1994. The front gate of the martyrs' cemetery is 20 meters wide. There is a stele wall in the middle of the gate. The stele wall is engraved with the seven character name of "anfengshan martyrs' cemetery" inscribed by general Zhang Aiping, then deputy commander of the central China military region. A granite stone column is erected on the south side of the gate. On the column is inlaid with the emblem of anfengshan martyrs' cemetery with a diameter of 1.2 meters. The design of the emblem is green pine and wreath, symbolizing the survival of 400 revolutionary martyrs who died for the country. There are 98 climbing steps from the gate to the tower base, which means that the main project of the cemetery was completed and officially opened in 1998. There are five platforms in the park, which symbolize the different historical periods of the new democratic revolution. From the entrance of the east gate, you can walk into the six functional areas of the cemetery, namely: Memorial area, youth education activity area, ruins area, martyr's tomb area, recreation area and sacrifice area; visitors can visit ten scenic spots, namely: column, carving, sign, corridor, hall, Museum, forest, tombstone, pavilion and tower, and reach the sacrifice square. In the cemetery, the 30.472-meter-high memorial tower for the martyrs of the Anfeng mountain incident is surrounded by numerous herbs and flowers, and the scattered Revolutionary History Memorial Hall of Donghai County and buildings of various shapes are covered by green pines and cypresses. In spring, summer, autumn and winter, people from all over the country often come to pay homage to the mausoleum, remember the heroic achievements and express their reverence.

Transformation of scenic spots

In order to further improve the quality of patriotism education base, Donghai County Civil Affairs Bureau actively strives for the project approval from the provincial Civil Affairs Department, and anfengshan martyrs cemetery creates a national patriotism education demonstration base. The area of anfengshan martyrs' cemetery will be doubled from 100 mu to 200 mu, and the function will be moderately increased and the memorial hall will be rebuilt. The existing memorial hall, due to its early completion, small space and obsolete equipment, needs to be rebuilt, and a stele gallery and Youth Activity Center are added. Two stele corridors are built on the north side of the cemetery square to carve the old generation's pen and ink, so that visitors can truly feel the old generation's ardent expectations for them; a symbolic relief is built in the center of the Youth Activity Center Square as a symbol; and a gate tower is built at the east end of the Cemetery Road and the North-South Road entrance to highlight the solemn and majestic atmosphere of the cemetery. At the same time, modern scientific and technological means are introduced into the reconstruction and expansion project of patriotic education demonstration base.
