Baishifang

Baishifang, known as "the first one in the world," is a national key protected cultural relic. It is located at the east end of beipaifang street, Shan county, Heze City, Shandong Province. It was built in 1778 for the Zhu family, the wife of Zhang Pu, wenlinlang.

Baishifang is named for its fine carving of 100 stone lions with different postures, implying "Pepsi (lion) Ruyi, Baishi (lion) Duoshou (Beast)". The archway is 14 meters high and 9 meters wide. It has four pillars, three rooms and five floors. It is located on the top of the mountain, in the middle of the carriageway and on both sides of the road. There are 100 lions in different shapes in this square, with superb architectural skills and immortal artistic value, which fully embodies the wisdom and strength of the ancient working people.

History and Humanities

Baishifang, formerly known as jiexiaofang, was built in 1778 as a gift to Zhang Pu's wife, wenlinlang, so it is also called "zhangjiapaifang". Baishifang is located in Paifang street in the north of Shanxian city. It is about 14 meters high and 9 meters wide. It is made of stone and carved. It has a single eaves in the main section and a double eaves in the second section. It is on the top of the mountain

The heart of baishifang is engraved with three regular script characters of "jiexiaofang". All of them are openwork and relief sculptures. Because of their exquisite carving and different shapes, they are the most famous in the world. The structure of the whole workshop is rigorous and symmetrical, magnificent, exquisitely carved, vivid, exquisite, complex and harmonious.

Architectural pattern

There are six brackets under the eaves of the main building and three brackets under the eaves of the secondary building. The carved lion, cloud dragon, peony, beast kissing and elephant statue are lifelike, lifelike, flexible and harmonious. Eight columns are divided into eight groups to carve 100 stone lions. The lion giant has curly hair and protruding eyes, a big nose, a wide mouth and sharp teeth, and a towering crouching position. There are five little lions on each big lion. In front of the constellation Leo, there are three relief pictures of round pine lions on the left and right sides. The young lions are in twos and threes, jumping and rolling, competing for hydrangeas. Each column is carved with four dragons, hovering and dancing in the soft and elegant auspicious clouds. Two dragons playing with pearls are hollowed out on the upper and lower forehead Fang of the main room, the second forehead Fang and the "imperial edict" plaque under the main eaves.

In the center of baishifang, there are three layers of carved peonies, which give people the feeling of colorful and fragrant. Under the eaves of the building, the animal fight flower arch is supported by Ruyi Fangban. The kissing beast, elephant statue, fork beast, fish, seahorse and running beast carved on the ridge and eaves are all beautiful and vivid. The tail of the kiss is rolled out and the mouth is opened to swallow the ridge. Two dragons are embossed on the body of each kiss beast. In the middle of the ridge, there are two dragons facing the sky, supporting a pearl and bottle ornament. Other parts are also embossed and flatly carved with auspicious pictures such as Double Dragons, peonies, chrysanthemums, Tuanhe and tuanshou. A stone bird cage is also carved on the nose of the lower Fangban in the main room. When the breeze blows, the stone birds flutter and sing. The structure of the whole archway is exquisite, grand and magnificent, the carving is fine, exquisite and clear, complex but not chaotic, and the primary and secondary are clear

Sister building

Baishoufang, formerly known as "chibaojiexiaofang", was built in 1765 by Kong family, concubine of Zhu Shuqi, head of the Imperial Academy. It is also known as Zhu's memorial archway. It is named baishoufang because it has 100 deformed seal characters "Shou" carved on the heart ring of the upper archway before and after the middle.

Baishoufang is about 13 meters high and 8 meters wide. Its magnificent architecture and exquisite carving are comparable to baishifang. The sculptures include: Lion, dragon and Phoenix, crane, peony, plum blossom, pine stone, bamboo orchid, Baoxiang flower, tangman grass, as well as the gold and stone patterns of Shang, Zhou, Qin and Han Dynasties. All of these deeply show the ingenious artistic conception of ancient Chinese stonework and the exquisite and luxuriant architecture and carving technology. Baishifang is majestic and tall, winning by opencut carving; baishoufang is a little small, but it has strict patterns and patterns, and each of the two has its own merits. This twin sister in the history of Chinese architecture and sculpture is admired by future generations.

Tour

From the Song Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, there are more than 100 memorial archways in Shan county, so Shan county enjoys the title of "memorial archway county". Memorial archway, also known as memorial archway, is a kind of door opening memorial building, which was used to publicize feudal ethics and flaunt public morality. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there were more than 30 "jiexiaofang" in Shan county. Unfortunately, these exquisite stone carvings were pulled down and smashed in the ten-year catastrophe. Fortunately, baishifang and baishoufang, which are the crowns of Qunfang, are still standing under the blue sky and white clouds, witnessing the vicissitudes of the world.

Tourists in Shandong Province can take the tour bus directly to Shanxian bus station. Tourists outside Shandong Province can take the train to Heze station or Jining Station, and then take the tour bus to Shanxian bus station. Baishifang is located in the urban area of Shan county. It is open all day without admission.
