Chen LianBo residence is located at No.36, Shasha Lane 1, Xiguan Fengyuan Road, Liwan District, Guangzhou city. It is a European style building on the edge of lizhiwan. In the Republic of China, Chen LianBo residence was a Liwan club and a gathering place for senior military officials of Guangdong and Guangxi families.
On August 9, 1993, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Guangzhou.
Architecture
The main building faces east and West. It is of reinforced concrete structure. The first floor covers an area of about 400 square meters. It is five stories high and has a French style semi basement. A wall lamp is set on both sides of the main entrance on the first floor. The exterior wall is decorated in baroque style with water brush and stone rice, with rich thread and foot. The floor is paved with marble bricks, teak doors and windows, with fine workmanship. The south side of the building is equipped with a revolving ladder to go up to the second to sixth floors, with original wooden handrails and cast iron stair railings. The appearance of the main building and the main structure of the building remain intact. The original courtyard was built and then converted into a dormitory building. Now it has been demolished. There is a Western Pavilion in the northwest corner of the main building, opposite to the pavilion of the residence. The top floor is decorated with four eaves and dripping water, which shows the architectural characteristics of the combination of Chinese and western.
history
The Republic of China
Founded in the 1930s, the owner of the house, Chen LianBo, was a comprador of the Bank of England. Later, he served as the head of the Guangzhou business group and the general head of the Guangdong business group. As Liwan club, it was a gathering place for Westernization workers and well-known people in the industrial and commercial circles. In 1946, it was transferred to the office of the Guangdong and Guangxi supervisory Affairs Office, which was guarded by the gendarmes.
republic
At the beginning of the people's Republic of China, the government changed it into a dormitory of Guangdong Provincial Department of water resources. The roof tiles were demolished and an extra floor was illegally built to "accommodate" workers. Part of the back garden was occupied as small shops. Before the Spring Festival in 2010, they moved out because of the cover removal and rehabilitation project in lizhiwan. In 1993, it was selected as "Guangzhou cultural relics protection unit".
Conservation
In October 2010, many photography enthusiasts found that most of the exquisite railings of the famous revolving staircase in Chen LianBo's residence had been lost. The building has also become a temporary dormitory for the construction team. Liwan District Bureau of culture, broadcasting and information said that they did not allow any workers to dismantle the stair railings, because they fell off one after another due to the obsolescence. The demolition Supervision Department of the railings had reservations and would repair them and transform them into a museum.
In July 2011, Chen LianBo mansion was reported that it was gradually replacing the tower studio as the new "haunted house" because it had been vacant for a long time.
In November, the reporter of new express found that the residence was still in a state of disrepair, and there were still people living at night. The Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture said that it was preparing to repair the building at that time. However, as the building has been taken over by Liwan District, the specific time and scheme for repair are unclear. Moreover, many government departments in Liwan District were unable to provide a repair plan for Chen LianBo residence.
On July 22, 2014, Liu Xiaoming, head of the cultural relics department of Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of culture, broadcasting and information technology, led the official media to publicize the relevant conservation actions of local historical buildings such as Chen LianBo mansion in Liwan District and Chen's ancestral hall (shanshitang) in Panyu. It was revealed that in the first round of cultural relics repair and maintenance subsidy fund of the city, 900000 yuan was allocated for Chen LianBo mansion.
