School history
root
The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan is a member of the universal Presbyterian Church and the reformed church family. Its historical roots can be traced back to the origin of three Western medical missionaries in Taiwan, namely, the missionary work of the Presbyterian missionary in 1865 in the south, the missionary work of the Presbyterian missionary in 1872 in the north, and the missionary work of the Presbyterian missionary Mei Jianwu and David LAN in 1896 in Changhua Road ministry.
establish
In 1865, Dr. James L. Maxwell (M.A., M.D., 1836-1921), the missionary teacher of the Presbyterian Church, was sent to Taiwan. He selected the Taiwan government (Tainan) as the missionary center of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, and set up a medical center and chapel in Tainan (at the foot of West Street Pavilion) to carry out medical missionary work. When he was engaged in medical missionary work, he began to bring hope to the people of Taiwan for new life, progress and prosperity. At the same time, it also brought western civilization to the local people, made Taiwan's medical science more scientific, and had a deeper understanding of world history, astronomy, geography and mathematics. At that time, the missionary teachers sent to Taiwan by the Church of England were all outstanding British doctors, educators and scientists. Together, they went to the first new building hospital in Tainan and immediately started their medical and missionary work. Then they helped the people to absorb Chinese and Western culture, scientific knowledge, biblical essentials and Christian gospel. Around 1870, primary schools were set up in various churches. On March 15, 1883, it was decided to set up Church Secondary Schools. On September 21, 1885 (the 11th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty), the Presbyterian Church of England officially selected Tainan as its capital and founded the first Western-style middle school in Taiwan, Presbyterian high school, which is the predecessor of today's Evergreen high school. It has a long history of 126 years. The first head of the school is Mr. George EDE.
Development status
Successive
In 1954, Mr. Chen Ming and Qing, the second chairman of evergreen middle school, inspected the development trend of Japanese universities and studied the characteristics of Japanese Christian universities. After being approved by the General Council of Presbyterian Church in Taiwan, 15 directors, including Chen Ming and Qing, Wu Jifu, organized the first board of directors of evergreen College of liberal arts. Unfortunately, due to the restriction of the Ministry of education on the establishment of universities at that time, they failed to enter the board as scheduled Bank preparation. Hou Quancheng, the third chairman of the board of directors of evergreen middle school (1963-1965 A.D.), had not yet settled the ban on the establishment of universities. He hoped to establish a junior college first, but it was blocked by the public opinion. During his term of office, Mr. Wu Jifu, the fourth chairman of the board of directors of evergreen middle school (1965-1989), still actively planned and put forward specific plans, which was still limited by the law and remained in the preparatory stage. In 1985, Mr. Huang Rencun took over as the fifth chairman of the board of directors of evergreen middle school. When the Ministry of education lifted the ban on the establishment of private universities, he discussed with Dr. Su Jin'an, the president of evergreen middle school, and Ms. Liu kuaizhi, the chairman of evergreen girls middle school, the establishment of the "evergreen Institute of technology" to continue the contribution of the Presbyterian Church to Taiwan's culture, education and medical care.
After formally applying to the Ministry of education in March 1988, it was approved by the Ministry of education in June 1989 to set up "evergreen Institute of technology". In August of that year, the board of directors of evergreen Institute of technology was set up. Mr. Gao Yuren, President of the Alumni Association of evergreen middle school, was appointed as the chairman of the board of directors. On February 3, 1990, the registration of the establishment of the consortium was completed (Civil Law No. 3781 of the South court).
Renaming
On November 16, 1992, Changrong Institute of technology was changed into Changrong Institute of management (No. 62959, Tai 81 Gao). On February 16, 1993, private Changrong Institute of management was registered and approved (Civil Law No. 9171, Nan yuan). Professor Lin Bangchong was appointed as the first president of the University, and participated in the 82 academic year joint recruitment. Four departments were set up, including "information management", "enterprise management", "international enterprise" and "accounting". 200 new students were approved to be recruited, which is a milestone in the history of higher education in China. Later, after several times of application for renaming the University, it was finally approved by the Ministry of education's Letter No. 91137638 on October 1, 2002, and changed its name to "evergreen University" since the 1991 academic year.
