Town God's Temple, Mengcheng
Taoist temples. It is located in the east of the Confucian temple in Mengcheng County, Anhui Province. It was first built in the Yuan Dynasty (1341-1368) and was repaired repeatedly in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is located in the north of the middle section of jinxincheng Road, about 50 meters to the east of the Confucian temple.
Structure introduction
From the front to the back, there are three main halls, including the mountain gate, yilou corridor, main hall and attic. The mountain gate is three rooms wide, with the passage in the middle, the earth temple in the East and the tan Fu Temple in the West. There are three main halls, with the statue of Fengcheng God in it, which is nearly meters high.
History Introduction
According to Ming Wanli 10 years (1582) "Mengcheng county annals" contains: Town God's Temple was built in yuan to Zheng (1341--1368), the temple brick wood structure, opened three doors, two things for the land shrine, add blessing temple. In the center of the main hall, a clay statue of the City God with a gold face is worshipped, which is about 4 meters high and very dignified. In front of it, there is a well-dressed statue sitting on the chair of the grand master, which can stand up abruptly according to its knees. Every year, the masses carry it to the streets during the "Victory Tour" and the believers sacrifice along the way.
Historical function
Before liberation, there were many ancient temples in Mengcheng county. Among them, Town God's Temple was the largest and most prosperous. "City God", according to Zhou Li, is one of the eight gods of La, which was widely worshipped after Song Dynasty.
At nine a.m. on February 3, 1947, the forenoon of Town God's Temple suddenly caught fire, and the big theaters, Kui Xing Lou and dozens of houses were burned down. Only the main hall and the East and West Corridor rooms were saved. Now it is a key cultural relic protection unit of the county.
