Dahuofang reservoir is built on Hunhe River in Fushun, Liaoning Province, with a controlled drainage area of 5437 square kilometers, an average annual flow of 52.3 m3 / s, a design flood flow of 15600 m3 / s, a total storage capacity of 2181 million m3, a design irrigation area of 1.29 million mu and an installed capacity of 3.2 MW.

Historical status
Dahuofang is the first large reservoir in China's first five year plan and the second largest reservoir in China at that time. It has become an important source of drinking water for residents in Shenyang and Fushun. Dahuofang reservoir has a long history. As early as the spring and Autumn period and Warring States period, people lived here, and there are still a large number of historical sites.

The annual average number and biomass are 17 677 individuals / L and 2.0647 mg / L, The number of zooplankton was the highest in June, while the biomass was the highest in September. Located in the middle and upper reaches of Hunhe River, a tributary of Liaohe River, in Fushun City, Liaoning Province, it is 18km away from Fushun City and 68km away from Shenyang City. It is a large-scale water conservancy project with comprehensive utilization of flood control, water supply, irrigation, power generation and fish culture.
Project overview
The dam is a roller compacted clay core earth dam with compound cross-section. The crest elevation is 139.2m, the maximum dam height is 49.2m and the dam length is 1366.7m. The maximum height and length of the second dam are 31.4m and 327.9m respectively. The crest of both dams are equipped with 1 m high wave walls. The third dam is a homogeneous earth dam with a crest elevation of 140.7m, a maximum dam height of 10m and a dam length of 85m. The main spillway is of straight chute type with bottom sill elevation of 125m and 5 radial gates of 10.4m × 7m. The first extraordinary spillway is a vacuum weir with a crest elevation of 134m and a leading edge length of 180m. The second extraordinary spillway is a wide crest weir with an elevation of 130m and a front edge length of 150m. The weir crest is equipped with a self breaking earth dike with an elevation of 139m. The floor elevation of the inlet of the water conveyance tunnel is 94m, the diameter of the tunnel is 6.5m, and the length of the main tunnel is 251m. There are two high-pressure access doors at the inlet, and there are one and two adits at the end of the main tunnel. There is a hydropower station at the end of the first branch tunnel with an installed capacity of 32000 kW; the second branch tunnel is a spillway tunnel with two flat gates at the outlet. The total volume of the project is 8.742 million cubic meters of earthwork, 2.245 million cubic meters of stonework, 120000 cubic meters of concrete, 2781t of steel, 19249t of cement and 80000 cubic meters of timber. The project started in April 1954 and was completed and put into operation in September 1958.

In recent 10 years, the water quality of the reservoir is basically maintained at the national standard of class II water. In order to fundamentally solve the problem of water shortage, the state approved the first phase of Dahuofang reservoir water conveyance project in 2001 and the second phase in 2005. Dahuofang reservoir water transfer project has an annual water transfer capacity of 1.8 billion cubic meters, with a total investment of 10.3 billion yuan. It will solve the industrial and residential water consumption of Fushun, Shenyang, Liaoyang, Anshan, Yingkou and Panjin in central Liaoning. Dalian is expected to take water from Fushun Dahuofang reservoir from Anshan water intake, which is expected to start in 2007. The second phase of the project is the longest distance, the largest amount and the most complex way of water supply in China. The total design period is 42 months and the estimated investment is 4.906 billion yuan.
The water conveyance tunnel of Dahuofang Reservoir in Liaoning has a diameter of 8m and a continuous length of 85.3km, which is the longest continuous tunnel in the world. The construction started in 2003. The project has long tunnel length, large cross section, long driving distance of single machine, large branch tunnel slope and unfavorable geology (fault, karst cave, water gushing, etc.). The project uses tunnel boring machine for construction and continuous belt conveyor for slag discharge. It was completed in 2008 and water supply was officially completed in September 2009.
