Xuankong Temple Grottoes
Xuankongsi grottoes are located about 55 kilometers south of Yulin City, on the cliff of luowu ruins in the west of shiyadi village. Southwest mountains, East Wuding River, steep terrain, beautiful scenery. The grottoes were originally the outpost of MengWu city in Xixia. In those years, both Xixia and the Northern Song Dynasty had garrisoned troops here to defend themselves. Later, they successively built statues and temples in the grottoes.
brief introduction
Up to now, there are still 11 caves and temples, including Wanfo cave, Sanxiao hall, Notre Dame palace, Guanyin hall, Zhenwu ancestral hall, etc. Among them, the scale of Wanfo cave is the largest, and the historical sites are well preserved. In the cave, there are square shaped stone pillars supporting the top. On the front of the pillars, there are two painted portraits of monks and Taoists who created the temple. The other three walls are painted with beautiful landscape. The four walls of the cave are painted with thousands of Buddha statues with different expressions. On the front of the cave, there are five statues, including the clay statue of static Buddha about 3 meters high, the founder of Zhenwu and the Virgin Mary. It can be seen that this is a temple integrating Buddhism and Taoism. Xuankong Temple used to be a place for local residents to escape from the war. Now there are still stone grinders, stone plates and other utensils in the ten thousand Buddha cave, and there are many holes on the outer wall of the cave. In addition, there is a rare tree species in the temple which has a magical posture but has not been identified. Like the history of the grottoes, it has also aroused great interest of tourists and related parties.
