Rugao museum was founded in 1988. In 2010, the construction of the new museum broke ground. The original museum is located in the water painting park of the state protection unit, and works with Rugao Municipal Cultural Administration Commission. Since the new museum was completed and opened free of charge, Rugao Museum has received 130000 visitors every year, and has carried out various activities in the fields of exhibition, education and volunteer service, which has achieved great results. After careful preparation and under the correct guidance of Rugao Municipal Bureau of culture, broadcasting and new technology, Rugao Museum finally met the requirements of China Museum Association in all aspects, and became a group member of the Museum Association after formal application.

Building distribution

Rugao New Museum District is located in the core of Cultural Square on the west side of Rugao administrative center. It was completed and fully opened to the outside world in October 2011, with a building area of 9973 square meters and a total exhibition area of 3893 square meters. The total investment is 75 million yuan, the exhibition expenses are 13.9 million yuan, and the cultural relics collection and office expenses are 1.2 million yuan.

In terms of functional layout, the new area of Rugao museum includes exhibition area, warehouse area, office area and affiliated area. There are four fixed exhibition halls and one temporary exhibition hall in the exhibition area, which are: Xiushui Liuyun historical and cultural exhibition, Xiushui Qunying celebrity exhibition, Guyi Xianju natural exhibition, Wuhua Tianbao collection exhibition and Rugao Longevity Culture Tour temporary exhibition. Four basic exhibition halls, one temporary exhibition hall and hall account for more than half of the total area of the museum. The office area is as simple as possible on the premise of complete functions. There are other ancillary areas such as teahouse and cultural museum store.

Beautiful water and flowing Charm -- historical and cultural exhibition

Located on the first floor of the main building and on the east side of the hall, the exhibition covers an area of 998.98 square meters. It integrates Rugao's profound historical accumulation and unique cultural advantages. It vividly and visually reproduces the historical process of Rugao, highlights the highlights and characteristics of Rugao, and highlights the enterprising spirit of Rugao's children who were born and grew up in Rugao. The exhibition is located on the second floor of the main building, in the north part of the east side, with an area of about 554.86 square meters. Rugao's soil and water, culture and customs nourish them, and they also give back to Rugao in different ways, bringing reputation and glory to Rugao. Their extraordinary achievements shine with the sun and the moon for thousands of years and will be recorded in history forever. Through three parts of ancient celebrities, modern celebrities and contemporary celebrities, the exhibition shows the elegant demeanor of 60 celebrities in Rugao at all times and in all over the world. Evergreen home: nature Exhibition

The exhibition is located on the second floor of the main building, in the south part of the east side, with an area of 675.78 square meters. The exhibition is close to the local characteristics of Rugao. The geographical ecology, rich species and longevity of Rugao are displayed through three parts of "warm water pearl", "colorful and beautiful life" and "harmony between nature and human". It highlights the ecological superiority of Rugao and the regional characteristics of the famous "longevity, health and blessing land". It makes this hall a place for outsiders to read Rugao and for local people to love Rugao Fresh teaching materials.

Collection exhibition

The exhibition is located on the east side of the third floor of the main building, covering an area of 554.86 square meters. The collection of cultural relics is the most intuitive embodiment of a local cultural accumulation. Rugao museum's existing collection mainly includes calligraphy and painting, porcelain and seals, among which a large number of seals are works of "Donggao seal school". Donggao seal school, also known as Rugao seal school or Zhigao seal school, is unique and far-reaching. This hall mainly displays calligraphy and painting, porcelain, miscellaneous items and seals.

Temporary exhibition

Development history

In 1961, Rugao county established a cultural relics management committee and collected more than 10000 cultural relics. After the impact of the "Cultural Revolution", the collection suffered great losses. In 1997, it was cleaned up and registered, with 923 cultural relics, including 312 ancient Chinese characters and paintings.

In 1980, in Rugao County, the Shuiming building of Qing Dynasty, which remains in the water painting garden, was repaired and arranged, and the portraits, calligraphy, supplies and historical materials of maobijiang (Mingxiang) and Dong Xiaoyuan were displayed. In addition, several rooms were set up to display the calligraphy and paintings, bronzes, pottery, jade, lacquerware and ironware of the celebrities of the past dynasties in Rugao county.

On March 15, 1989, Rugao County People's Government approved the formal establishment of Rugao County Museum, which is subordinate to Rugao Municipal Bureau of culture.

On June 1, 1991, Rugao county was removed from the county and built into a city, so it was designated as Rugao City Museum.

All kinds of rooms of Rugao museum are reconstructed from old buildings, covering an area of 4858 square meters, including 1058 square meters of building area and 475 square meters of exhibition area.

Construction layout

The main contents of the exhibition are as follows: 1. A brief introduction to the life of Mao Bijiang and Dong Xiaowan and their water painting garden. 2. Display the cultural relics such as calligraphy and painting, bronzes, ceramics, jades, lacquerware, etc. The exhibition hall is divided into six parts: Yuxiang, shuiminglou, Yingmei, yinyuzhai, calligraphy and painting room, and cultural relics hall, with 121 cultural relics on display. The main feature of the exhibition is "life restoration".

Collection

There are 1939 cultural relics in the museum, including 828 ancient Chinese characters and paintings. Among the cultural relics in the collection, the pottery unearthed from the tombs of Song Dynasty excavated in recent years is the treasure. According to Ma Yuan's copy of the Southern Song Dynasty, the stone carvings of Guan Gong and the calligraphy and painting of famous artists such as Wen Zhengming, Dong Qichang, Mao Xiang, he Shaoji, Wang Wenzhi, Lin Zexu and Weng Tonghe are more important. The museum has published a brief introduction to water painting garden.
