Taichung port
Taichung port, formerly known as Wuqi port, is located in Qingshui Town, Taichung City, Taiwan Province, China. The port faces back to Dadu Mountain and faces the Taiwan Strait. Dajia River and Dadu River go out to sea from north to south respectively, protruding from the west coast of the Taiwan Strait. The harbor construction was completed in 1982. It is one of the ten major construction projects. Together with Kaohsiung port, Hualien port and Keelung port, it is the province's four major international ports. The authentic ship provides passengers with a view of the sea, the merchant ships of various countries, the sea entrance of the Dadu River and the Taichung thermal power plant.
General situation
Taichung port, located in Wuqi Town, Taichung City, Taiwan Province, is a new international port in Taiwan. In order to alleviate the operating pressure of Keelung and Kaohsiung ports, Taiwan began to build Taichung port in 1973 and joined the operation in 1976. The port is located at 24 degrees 17 minutes north latitude and 120 degrees 29 minutes east longitude. The land area of the port area is 14.95 million hectares. The water area of the port area is 4.87 million square meters. The water depth of the port channel is 12.5-13 meters, which can accommodate 50000 tons of ships. The water depth of each main channel in the port area is 13 meters. By the early 1990s, the port had 8 warehouses, which could hold 161000 tons of goods; 29 operating docks, 6530 meters long, which could berth 29 ships; 21 cranes, 95 stackers, 3 barges and 8 tugs. Major construction projects include the new construction of the port area and external roads, the second phase expansion of the port, and the renovation of wharves 9 to 11. Taichung port is not as busy as Kaohsiung port and Keelung port, but it has a large area, and it can open up new land and build new docks, so it has great development potential. At the same time, Taichung port is not only very close to Zhongshan expressway, which is Taiwan's north-south transportation hub, but also only 110 nautical miles away from Xiamen port on the other side. The voyage of ordinary ships is only 5 hours. It is one of the best ports for cross-strait navigation.
Transport capacity
Taichung port mainly transports bulk goods such as grain and fertilizer. In 2002, there were 5546 incoming ships with a gross tonnage of 76.88 million tons, 5535 outgoing ships with a gross tonnage of 76.69 million tons, 11081 incoming and outgoing ships with a gross tonnage of 153.57 million tons, 43.61 million tons of cargo throughput, 81.51 million tons of cargo handling capacity and 580000 TEUs of containers.
geographical position
Taichung is the gateway to the sea. Located in the middle of the west coast of Taiwan Island (24 ° 19 ′ 40 ″ n, 120 ° 29 ′ 27 ″ E), between the mouth of dajiaxikou and the mouth of daduxi (daduxi), adjacent to the Taiwan Strait in the West and Dajia plain in the East, it belongs to two towns of Wuqi and Qingshui in Taichung County. Old Wuqi small harbor, no good natural harbor, coastal front shallow water. The mouth of the dajiaojia river lies to the south. Due to the sea current formed by the north and northeast wind for a long time in the middle of the year (especially from October to march of the next year), there is a large amount of sand drifting to the south, which is not conducive to the construction of the port. However, because the throughput energy of Keelung port in the north and Kaohsiung port in the south is nearly saturated, and the location is relatively moderate (about 108 nautical miles from Keelung port in the north and 120 nautical miles from Kaohsiung port in the South), it is decided to build a new artificial port to develop the economy of the western and central region and regulate the shipping of the two ports. It is planned that the water depth of the new port will be 14m below the low tide, allowing 60000 DWT ships to enter and leave freely and 80000 DWT ships to enter and leave by tide.
The port is 350 meters wide, the channel is 1500 meters long and 300 meters wide, there are 27 deep-water wharves, more than 140000 meters of breakwaters, 1079 hectares of reclaimed land (new land), 265 hectares of industrial zone and 185 hectares of windbreak forest. It has been constructed in three phases since 1971. Phase 3 started at the end of 1979. After the completion of the whole project, the operating capacity can reach 11 million shipping tons, ranking third in the province, next to Kaohsiung and Keelung. The new city plan of Taichung port is centered on the new port area, with a planned development area of more than 4700 hectares and a population capacity of about 500000 in the future.
Taichung port is adjacent to Taichung City by Dadu Mountain terrace in the East, about 30 kilometers away from the city center. Between the east of the harbor and the foothills of the dadushan platform lies the Dajia coastal plain, about 5 km wide from east to west. It runs through the "sea line" of the railway and the provincial No.1 highway, and goes south through the plain. Another road in the port area connects Taichung City from Qingshui town and Shalu town respectively. It is only about 40 km from the Qingshui station in the east of Hong Kong to Taichung city. Therefore, the highway and railway transportation between Taichung port and Taichung city is convenient. Taichung port is closest to Xiamen (127 nautical miles) and Fuzhou (117 nautical miles) on the West Bank of the Taiwan Strait, which is also of great significance to the maritime links between the mainland and China.
History of port construction
Taichung port is located in Wuqi Town, Taichung County. Its longitude and latitude are 24 degrees 17 minutes 40.3 seconds north latitude and 120 degrees 29 minutes 27.3 seconds east longitude. Wuqi was called "bamboo raft cave" in ancient times. Most of the residents lived by fishing, so it was also called "wangguliao". Because it was located at the West foot of Aofeng mountain, it was also called "Aoxi". In 1891 (the 17th year of Guangxu), local gentry proposed to change its name to "Wuqi" with the meaning of "Feng is not Wuqi, not Liquan is not drinking, not bamboo is not eating". In 1895 (the 21st year of Guangxu), Taiwan was defeated and ceded to Japan, In 1938, Japan drew up a port construction plan and named it "new Gaogang". In 1938, Japan lost the war and all the projects were at a standstill.
At the beginning of 1961, the government actively engaged in economic construction and expanded foreign trade. The volume of import and export goods increased sharply, resulting in the gradual congestion of Keelung and Kaohsiung ports. At that time, the government had foreseen that foreign trade would continue to accelerate. In addition to actively engaged in the improvement and expansion of the original ports, it was urgent to create new ports to meet the needs.
In August 1968, a survey on the site of the new port was carried out. In July 1969, a survey report on the site of the new port was completed and submitted to the Executive Yuan for approval.
On February 1, 1971, the Taichung Port Engineering Bureau was established. On October 31, 1973, the first block of stone was thrown down at the North dike. The Taichung port construction project started.
Port facilities
Taichung port is a man-made port with a vast development space, great plasticity, convenient external transportation, strict safety management measures, comprehensive computerized operation, single window service and other advantages. Taichung port has complete facilities, including holiday fish market, fishing goods sales area, whole net yard, fishing boat repair yard, fishing gear warehouse, parking lot and tourist rest area , shore service desk, etc. Selling a variety of dry, fresh fish, as well as all kinds of snacks. In addition, Taichung Port Authority passed the ISO 9002 international quality assurance certification in June 1998, and then upgraded and passed the ISO 9001:2000 international quality assurance certification on September 1, 1991. It continues to provide high-quality and efficient services, so that the public and users can enjoy more international facilities and quality. The total area of Taichung port is 3760 hectares, with 960 hectares of water area and 2800 hectares of land area. In the Japanese era, there was a plan to build a new Gaogang port, but it was later stopped because of the Second World War. Taichung port is adjacent to Taichung City in the East, Taiwan Strait in the west, Miaoli across dajiaxi River in the north, Changhua and Nantou in the south. Taichung port construction project started in 1972 and started operation in 1976. Taichung port, formerly known as Wuqi port, is one of Taiwan's four major international ports along with Kaohsiung port, Keelung port and Hualien port. Taichung port is the closest to Xiamen port, only 136 nautical miles, which is the most suitable port for direct cross-strait transportation.
Before the Qing Dynasty, Taichung port was an important berthing port for mainland fishing boats when they came to Taiwan.
Historical evolution
early stage
Taichung port is located in Wuqi Town, Taichung County. Its latitude and longitude are 24 degrees 17 minutes 40.3 seconds north and 120 degrees 29 minutes 27.3 seconds East. Wuqi was called bamboo raft cave in ancient times. Most of the residents lived by fishing, so it was also called "wangguliao". Because it was located at the West foot of Aofeng, it was also called Aoxi. In 1891 (the 17th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu), the local gentry proposed to change its name to Wuqi, which was based on the implication of "phoenix is not Wuqi, not Liquan is not drinking, not bamboo is not eating". In 1895 (the 21st year of Guangxu), the Manchu Qing Dynasty was defeated in the Sino Japanese War of 1894 and ceded Taiwan to Japan. In 1938, Japan drew up a plan to build a harbor and named it xingaogang. After the defeat of the Japanese war in 1944, all the projects came to a standstill.
In the early 1960s, Taiwan expanded its foreign trade, and the volume of import and export goods increased sharply. As a result, the two ports of Keelung and Kaohsiung were gradually congested. The Taiwan authorities created new ports to meet the needs. In August 1968, the investigation on the new port site was carried out. In July 1969, the investigation report on the new port site was completed and submitted to the "Executive Yuan" of Taiwan authorities for approval. Taichung port is a comprehensive international new port for commerce, industry and fishery.
On February 1, 1971, the Taichung Port Engineering Bureau was established. On October 31, 1973, the first block of stone was dropped from the north embankment, and the Taichung port construction project started.
