Brief introduction of ancient town
Fotang ancient town is located in the southwest of Yiwu City. Since the Ming and Qing Dynasties, countless ships have been traveling on the river. The floating bridge wharf of Fotang is the most important docking point. Today's ancient town has long been desolate, but you can still see the traces of its prosperity on the colorful bracket, window lattice, brick carvings and stone carvings of the ancient town's folk houses. As a scenic spot, Fotang ancient town is still under development, and there is no charge. There is little commercial significance in the streets and lanes. The simple life of the local people deep in the lanes is a rare sight elsewhere.
Nearly 2 km old street is the soul of the ancient town. The straight street, chamber of Commerce Street, yanbutou cross street, fuqiaotou cross street and east-west two sub streets constitute the core of the ancient town. Since Fotang has been a commercial port since ancient times, there are still many shops along the street. It still retains the pattern of shops downstairs and houses upstairs. Old wooden doors and low counters can be seen everywhere. Ruitaixiang, shouchuntang and other old businesses give people the illusion of going back in time. The Xinhua theater on the old street is still the most distinctive cultural landmark of the Buddhist hall. In the theater, there are square tables and chairs commonly seen in the 1980s, and local opera performances are often performed. If it happens, you might as well enjoy it with the villagers who come to see the play from the nearby villages.
Wuqiji residence (Wuzhai) is the biggest attraction in the ancient town. However, because the ancient town has not been fully developed, there is no obvious road sign on the street, but it can be found by asking the local people. This Ming and Qing style old house is a perfect combination of the atmosphere of Huizhou architecture and the fine carving of Zhejiang Province. The carving contents include opera characters, fishing, firewood, farming and reading, pavilions and pavilions, and even the drainage outlet in the corner is decorated with exquisite stone carvings. The owner of Wu's house devoted his whole life to the construction of this mansion, but after the war of resistance against Japan, land reform and other frustrations, he failed to live here for a day. When visitors are in it, they will inevitably feel sad. Another old house worth seeing is Huaiyin Hall (Liji eight side hall) located on the North Bank of houyangtian reservoir. There are eight pairs of Hui Style horse head walls on both sides, which are very elegant. The eight houses are independent and connected, with unique shape.
In addition, when you walk into the deep lane, you will find more beautiful old buildings hidden in the casual corner, and the photos are quite charming. In the brown sugar culture and Art Museum in the old street, you can also see the sculpture exhibition of brown sugar made by the ancient method in the Buddhist hall, which is very vivid. After seeing the building, walk to the river, and the simple ancient bridge of Qing Dynasty is introduced. The stone on the bank is engraved with the name of the ancient wharf, and the sculpture on the wall records the prosperity of "chicken feather for sugar" here.
