Menglian gold pagoda
Menglian pagoda is located on the Bank of the charming Nanlei river. It is composed of eight small pagodas encircling a main tower. The main tower is 31.68 meters high. Each tower is hung with a wind chime. Whenever the wind blows, the wind chime will make a light and crisp jingle, which makes people feel a different Buddhist charm. At the same time, Dai people think it is Sanskrit from the sky. The pagoda is a symbol of the unity and progress of the people of all ethnic groups in Menglian. It is said that the origin of Menglian pagoda is closely related to Menglian Xuanfu department. Menglian Xuanfu department, called "he Han" in Dai language, is the golden hall. A long time ago, people thought that there should be a pagoda with the golden hall. Later, this pagoda was built here. After the completion of the pagoda, it will be perfectly matched with the "Golden Hall" to form a brilliant contrast.
Architectural features
Due to the late completion of the pagoda (completed in April 1997), it was influenced by the Han culture in some small buildings, which is shown as follows: first, the dragons around the pagoda are all Han shaped. 2、 There is a dragon around the tower, and there is a crane beside the dragon. Crane is a symbol of good luck. Among the immortals of Taoism in China, there are many crane riders, but the appearance of crane in Menglian pagoda is inconceivable, because from the traditional habits and regional characteristics of Dai people, peacock is the most auspicious bird they have always worshipped. 3、 Entering the entrance of the underground palace of the pagoda, Maitreya is worshipped. Maitreya is the future Buddha among the three Buddhas, which belongs to the category of Mahayana Buddhism. It can be considered that Hinayana Buddhism absorbed some concepts of Mahayana Buddhism in the communication with Mahayana Buddhism. Fourth, the murals around the underground palace contain the content of journey to the West. Journey to the west is the essence of Chinese culture. Buddhas of all sizes can be found in Buddhism. Apart from the four Tang monks, masters and disciples, they are portrayed in the murals, which are influenced by modern communication and public taste.
Tourism characteristics
Among the subsidiary buildings of Menglian pagoda, the most important are four square pavilions around the base of the pagoda. "Fangting", which means "the pavilion to guide the way", is called "extravagance" in Dai language. The four square pavilions are respectively placed in different directions, with different orientations. They are dedicated to the four heavenly kings of the East, the west, the north and the South: the south grows tianwu, the chief wind; the East holds Tianwang, the chief tune; the North hears Tianwang, the chief rain; the West Guangmu Tianwang, the chief Shun. Each of the four heavenly kings protects one side of the world, which means "good weather", implying "abundant grain" and "peace in the world".
Menglian pagoda is "solid outside and empty inside", and only men are allowed to enter the underground palace. Outside the gold pagoda, you can see several Buddhas sitting cross legged. They are specially used to tie a thread for tourists. It is said that tying a thread can prevent diseases, keep things smooth, and bless your safety.
