Song pagoda of Beisi

Located in the former site of Chongshou temple, neibei street, Pucheng County, Shaanxi Province (behind the County Museum), the tower is a square brick tower with dense eaves. It is 13 steps on four sides, 47 meters high and 11 meters long on each side. It was built in the third year of Shaosheng (1096 A.D.) in the Northern Song Dynasty. It is majestic and straight, simple and beautiful, and towering into the sky. There were bells hanging at every eaves corner of the tower. After the earthquake in the 34th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, the tower was damaged, the spire was lost, and all the bells were lost. In 1985, it was completely restored and the stairs were installed to the top floor. The tower is now a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Appearance features

A door is opened to the south of the first tower. In the north of the second level, there is a stone tablet engraved with the six characters "pagodas of Buddhist relics". Starting from the second stage, there are three square columns and a bucket arch on all sides of each stage, and some have more than one bucket between the two columns. From Grade 7 and above, there is no column without bucket. Above the bucket arch are beams, teeth and overlapping eaves. The first and second levels are all 13 layers, and the above levels are gradually reduced. There are ticket doors at all levels of the tower, most of which are three swords on both sides, true and false, and alternate between virtual and real. There are also one level with only one real ticket door. The two sides of the ticket door are decorated with horizontal ridge windows (no horizontal windows above level 9). At the eaves corner of each layer of the tower, the bell was originally hung. It sounded in the wind and heard all over the city. On the south side of the fourth level of the tower, a small Buddha statue is embedded. In the small temple to the north of the pagoda, there is a stone Buddha statue and two stone tablets, which record the history of building the pagoda.

Construction history

The song pagoda of the North Temple was originally built by Wang Xin, a businessman, who donated 50000 liang of silver. Because Chongshou temple had no Pagoda in the early days, the monk's depth of field initiated the construction of the pagoda. Knowing that Wang Xin, a businessman in Yanxing village of BEIXIANG, had money to give, he asked Wang Bu to give 5000 taels of silver to take the lead. Wang Xin asked depth of field, how much money does it cost to build a tower? The depth of field is 50000 Liang. Wang Xin promised that he would bear all the expenses, and with the consent of his family, he would give the money to the monk to supervise the repair. This historical fact is a good story in the history of the tower under construction.

After the completion of the Beisi pagoda, it is more majestic and straight than the Nansi pagoda. Since then, the two pagodas stand side by side, holding their heads high and pointing to the white clouds with a smile, adding luster to the ancient city of Shili. The brick holes of the Qionglou tower also attract countless fire swallow gray pigeons to live and breed here, which also creates the spectacular scenery of "group of swallows flying around the tower".
