Dulan county is located in the southeast of Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province. Dulan (Mongolian meaning "warm"), with a total area of 4527 square kilometers. The county people's government is located in Chahanwusu Town, 205 kilometers away from Delingha, the capital of the prefecture, and 428 kilometers away from Xining, the provincial capital.
Dulan county is located in the southeast corner of Qaidam Basin, which can be divided into two geomorphic types: hanbuda mountain area and Qaidam basin plain. Gobi, desert, valley, river, lake, hill, plateau and mountain are distributed in turn. There are more than 40 rivers including Shaliu River, Tuosuo River and Chahanwusu river. It is a dry continental climate with an average annual temperature of 2.7 ℃, the lowest extreme temperature of - 29.8 ℃ and the highest extreme temperature of 33 ℃. The average annual precipitation is 179.1 mm.
Dulan County governs four towns and four townships, and is one of the top ten resource counties in Qinghai Province. It has two national key cultural relics protection units, nine provincial key cultural relics protection units, and one county-level key cultural relics protection unit.
In October 2017, the Qinghai provincial government agreed to withdraw Dulan county from the province's poor counties.
Evolution of organizational system
From the Zhou and Qin Dynasties to the early Han Dynasty, Dulan belonged to the pastureland of Bailan Qiang in the West Qiang.
In AD 4 (the first four years of Emperor Wen of Han Dynasty), Dulan was under the jurisdiction of the Han Dynasty.
From the fourth to the seventh century A.D., it was the territory of the Tuyuhun Dynasty in Xianbei, which was later annexed by Tubo.
From the 13th century (Yuan Dynasty), Dulan began to return to the territory of the central dynasty. It was the pasture of the Eastern Mongolian tribes and Heshuote right rear banner.
In the sixth year of the Republic of China (1917), the Dulan council office was set up, which was under the jurisdiction of Xining Road, Gansu Province.
In 1930, it was changed to Dulan county.
In 1949, Dulan was liberated and the people's Government of Dulan county was established.
In 1952, Dulan autonomous region was established.
In 1953 and 1954, it was renamed Dulan Mongolian, Tibetan and Kazak United autonomous region and Dulan Mongolian Autonomous Region.

In 2005, Dulan County adjusted the township administrative divisions: 1. Abolish Zongjia Township and Nuomuhong Township, and establish Zongjia town. The town government is located in Nuomuhong Township, where the former Nuomuhong township government is located, and implement the system of town governing village. 2. The happy village in Xiangjia township was put under the jurisdiction of Xiangride town.

Dulan county is located in the middle of Qinghai Province and the southeast corner of Qaidam Basin
It is adjacent to Chaka town of Wulan County in the East, Golmud City, an important industrial town in Haixi County in the west, Maduo County of Guoluo Prefecture and qumalai County of Yushu prefecture in Qingnan pastoral area in the south, and Delingha City, the capital of Haixi Prefecture in the north. The county is 310 km long from east to west and 180 km wide from north to south, with a total area of 4527 square kilometers. Chahanwusu town is 427km away from Xining City in the East and 340km away from Golmud City in the West.
