Related Legends
At the entrance of Linggu village, Hailing Island, Yangjiang City, there is a Hou Wang Temple. Because the temple is in Linggu village, the local people also call it Linggu Temple.
It has always been a mystery when the Hou Wang Temple was built and who it worships. In history, it is only generally said that the Marquis was exhausted at the same time as Zhang Shijie of Song Dynasty. Even Li Yun, who was once the magistrate of Yangjiang, had to say that "the God of Linggu Temple does not know who is also" in the book of rebuilding Linggu Temple. With the return of Hong Kong, it's time to reveal this mystery.
In China, there are only two Hou Wang temples. The other is in Kowloon City, Hong Kong.
In Yangjiang, the origin of Houwang temple has no roots to find because of the long time. There are only a few pieces of folklore left. Some say that a general who worked hard with Zhang Shijie was worshiped here. Some say that after the collapse of the temple, only the God's main card had ant seal characters. Others say that when the temple was rebuilt, all the bricks and wood drifted from abroad, and the Houwang Xianling moved bricks and stones wait.
In Hong Kong, however, there is a complete story: 700 years ago, Kowloon City was an ancient city guarding the seaside, which was called guanfuchang at that time. When the army of Yuan Dynasty went south to kill the king of Zhao's family in Song Dynasty, Zhao Zheng, Emperor Jingyan, fled here with the Song family. Yang Liangjie, the younger brother of Zhao Zheng's mother, Yang Shufei, protects his younger nephew Zhao Zheng as a national uncle. He is in charge of the government and supports the crisis. After he died in the sea, he was canonized as the Lord of the king and worshiped in the temple of guanfuchang. Because Yang Liang was a marquis before the festival and was canonized as the king after his death, this temple is called the "Marquis Temple".
Historical origin
Why only Hong Kong and Yangjiang have the temple of waiting for the king? As we all know, due to historical and geographical reasons, Yangjiang has a particularly close relationship with Hong Kong. Today, the "Yangjiang cemetery", which stretches tens of acres on Dongwan mountain in Changzhou, Hong Kong, is the best witness (such a regional cemetery is unique in Hong Kong). Since ancient times, many people have settled in Hong Kong in Yangjiang. For generations, fishermen from the two places have been going to and fro with each other, and fishing boats from the two places have been berthing each other. At that time, there were not many temples in Hong Kong. Of course, fishermen had to worship the famous Hou Wang Temple.
Because of this long-standing origin, the customs and beliefs of the people in the fishing grounds of the two places have influenced each other and even assimilated. When fishing boats from Yangjiang come back to Yangjiang, or when fishing boats from Hong Kong come to Yangjiang, it is not so easy for fishermen to pay homage to the Lord. So there was a need to build a temple of Hou Wang in Yangjiang. The tomb of Zhang Shijie, a loyal minister of the Song Dynasty, is located on Hailing Island. It is also the hope of the good people to let their monarchs and ministers reunite after their death. Therefore, the tomb site was chosen in Hailing. The Houwang temple has been built. On the East Shenqian Bay of Hailing Island, there is the Houwang temple on the left and the Taifu temple on the right. There is one king and one minister. How powerful it is! It's also a unique phenomenon that there are two Wangchen temples in the same place. No wonder people say that "they are not afraid of Hailing people, they are most afraid of Hailing God". In recent years, after the reconstruction of the Houwang temple in Linggu, many Hong Kong and Macao villagers have returned to burn incense.
According to the inscriptions of Hong Kong's Hou Wang Temple, the temple was rebuilt in 1759, 1822 and 1879, and Yangjiang was rebuilt once in 1822. Li Yun, who was a county magistrate in Yangjiang at that time, said in the above-mentioned book of rebuilding Linggu Temple: "during the reign of Jiaqing, he slaughtered Yangjiang and crossed the sea on business, and then he realized that the tomb of Zhang Taifu and the temple of Hou Wang were in Linggu." When Li Yun was in Yangjiang, he was in Jiaqing 14-18 years, that is to say, before 1809-1813, there was a Hou Wang Temple. According to the memory of Linggu Temple keeper, when his 17th ancestor moved to hailing in Shunzhi years, he had already seen the heyday of Hou Wang Temple. At least 1660 years ago, there was a Hou Wang Temple in Yangjiang. It should be said that the construction age of the Hou Wang temples in Hong Kong and Yangjiang is not very different, and they have a history of at least 500 years.
