Beimen station
Beimen station is located in the Eastern District of Chiayi City, Taiwan. It is the railway station of Alishan line of Alishan Forest Railway of Forestry Bureau, and it is also the actual starting point of Alishan railway. The original station building of Beimen station (called beimenyi at that time) was completed and put into use in 1912 (45 years of Meiji). However, the actual travel business has long been transferred to the new station which was completed and put into use in 1973 (62 years of the Republic of China). The original station was renovated and used as Jiayi forestry history exhibition hall and designated as a municipal historic site.
history
In 1899, the Japanese discovered a large area of forest in the Alishan area of Central Taiwan, so they began to work out a logging plan, including the construction of the Alishan railway. In 1910, the section between Jiayi and zhutouqi was opened to traffic, Alishan railway began to operate partially, and beimenyi was completed in that year. Different from other stations along the railway at that time, Beimen station was not just a general station. It and Jiayi station formed the eastern and Western boundaries of a very large area of timber professional area. There were facilities related to logging, such as forest camp, timber storage pool and lumber yard, and Beimen repair factory responsible for vehicle maintenance and dispatching.
After the exploitation of forest resources stopped, the main use of Alishan railway was gradually transferred to tourism and passenger transport. Today's Beimen station is divided into two parts: the new station on the north side of the railway and the old station on the south side. The actual passenger transport business is entirely in the charge of the new station on the north side, while the old station is reserved as a memorial hall and tourist attractions. Although Alishan railway is a well-known mountain railway in the world, Beimen station, which is not far from the starting point, is still located in the plain area of Jiayi City, with an altitude of only 31 meters.
1899 - the Japanese discovered the Alishan Forest. From 1912 to the official opening of Alishan railway, timber carrying trains from 20000 Ping to beimenyi began to run. 1918 - in order to serve the residents and climbers along the railway, the forestry units began to attach passenger cars behind the timber trains, and also engaged in passenger transport business, known as "convenient trains".
1933 - Rongting station between Jiayi station and Beimen station and lucuo station between Beimen station and Wanqiao station began to operate, and Alishan railway began to function as a commuter route. 1973 - the new Beimen station was completed and put into operation. The old station was used as a freight and maintenance station.
1998 - the wooden old Beimen station was declared as a historic site of Jiayi city on April 30, but a fire broke out in May and destroyed half of the buildings. In November, it was renovated and restored by the forest management office of Jiayi city. 2001 - the landscape improvement project near the old Beimen station (beimenyi) was completed, and the road in front of the gate was changed into a pedestrian area for sightseeing.
