Zhaba Grand Canyon

Zhaba Grand Canyon is located in the south of Daofu County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with an altitude of 2720 meters. It is adjacent to Bamei District, Daofu County in the East, Yajiang County in the South and Xinlong County in the West. It has jurisdiction over five townships, namely Zhongni, Hongding, yazhuo, zhatao and xiatuo, with nearly 6000 people. It is 72 kilometers away from Daofu county and 620 kilometers away from Chengdu.

Zhaba Grand Canyon is about 150 kilometers long. Due to the peculiar terrain, the Xianshui River at the bottom of the canyon forms one Dahui Bay after another. The scenery on both sides of the Xianshui River is unique and beautiful. The mountains on both sides of the canyon are straight and steep, and the zhaga holy mountain can be seen from a distance. But you can see the torrent in the high mountains and valleys, the sea of clouds is blue, and there are large dense and lush forests. From a distance, it looks like giant tapestries hanging down from the horizon. During the walk, you are full of interest and relaxed. If you look far away, you can see ancient watchtower communities scattered in the deep of the canyon

Now Zhaba still retains the unique matriarchal clan custom of "no marriage for men, no marriage for women". The core of the family is the mother. All kinds of housework and farm work are mainly done by women.

Walking marriage is called "climbing house" in Zhaba. In Zhaba, as long as young men and women love each other and do not need any ceremony, men can climb the wall and turn over the window at night and enter the girl's boudoir to get married overnight. Climbing a 10 meter high building usually takes only 3 or 5 minutes. From the beginning of falling in love, men and women practice walking marriage according to the ancient marriage customs. The children they give birth to are completely raised by the mother. The father does not have the responsibility of raising children, but only does what he can. In his own matrilineal family, the man helps his sisters raise their children.
