BaiCaoYuan is located behind Lu Xun's former residence, covering an area of nearly 2000 square meters. It was originally a vegetable garden shared by a dozen families of the Zhou family in xintaimen. It usually grows some melons and vegetables, which are used to dry grain in autumn. This was Lu Xun's childhood paradise. He often came to play, tasted purple and red mulberry and sour and sweet raspberry, caught crickets and plucked Polygonum multiflorum along the low mud wall, enjoyed cool in the garden in summer, and caught birds in the snow in winter. These childhood anecdotes left a deep and beautiful impression in Lu Xun's heart, and even aroused his cordial nostalgia in his later years. After the change of ownership of BaiCaoYuan and zhoujiaxintaimen's real estate, although the north and south ends of the garden have changed their appearance, the main parts of BaiCaoYuan remain basically the same.

summary
BaiCaoYuan is a vegetable garden of Zhou family in xintaimen, Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. BaiCaoYuan is located behind Lu Xun's former residence in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. It is adjacent to dongxianhuan River in the north, Shen family's house in the East, and Liang family's back garden in the West. It is wide in the South and narrow in the north, covering an area of nearly 2000 square meters. It was originally owned by Zhiren and Renren of Zhou family in xintaimen. The west half belongs to Zhifang, and the east half belongs to renfang. Every family grows some vegetables in this garden, and some plots are used as sun farms after autumn, but the garden is desolate because of its large size.
Covering an area of about 2000 square meters, it is the place where Lu Xun played when he was a child. Although there is no obvious boundary in the garden, it can be divided into big garden and small garden. Small garden in the north, covering a small area, protruding to the northwest corner, covering an area of about a quarter of the big garden. There is a gate leading to the dongxianhuan river. A river port is built along the river, where the manure boat can dock to carry the ash and manure of Zhoujia grass. The big garden is located in the South and covers a large area. In the west, there is a pile of mud walls about 44 meters long and about one meter high, which serves as the dividing line between the big garden and liangjiahouyuan in the West. At the south end of the mud wall, which borders on the corner of Lu Xun's back door, there is a boundary tablet engraved with the word "Liang Jie". This boundary stone and this pile of "short mud wall" which Lu Xun called "infinite interest" still remain the same today.
Luxun's former residence
Lu Xun's former residence in Shaoxing is located in Fangkou, Dongchang, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province (now 208 Lu Xun Road), on the west side of Lu Xun Memorial Hall. Shaoxing is Lu Xun's hometown. Lu Xun was born here on September 25, 1881. He lived here until he was 18 years old and went to Nanjing to study. After that, he went back to his hometown to teach and basically lived here. He died in 1936. Lu Xun is the chief General of Chinese Cultural Revolution and the greatest writer, thinker and revolutionist in modern China. On the west side of the memorial is Lu Xun's former residence, and on the east side of the memorial is Sanwei bookstore, where Lu Xun studied for five years.
Lu Xun's former residence is a two-story Chinese style building. All the furnishings were arranged according to the actual situation at that time. Here you can see Lu Xun's living room, bedroom, kitchen, vegetable garden, etc.
Sanwei bookstore is the place where Lu Xun went to school in his youth, about 100 meters away from his former residence. The library is a famous private school in Shaoxing in the late Qing Dynasty. The plaque of "Sanwei bookstore" and the picture of pine deer are hung on the middle wall of the room. There is a couplet on the column: "music is silent, only filial piety, too beautiful taste is reading." There are square tables and wooden chairs in the room, which are the original objects at that time. In the northeast corner of the study, there is a desk with the word "Zao" engraved on the desk, which was Lu Xun's desk. There is a small garden behind the library for Lu Xun and his classmates to play after school.
Xintaimen is a place where the Zhou family has lived together for many years. The original central gate here is six black painted bamboo gates, which no longer exist after reconstruction.
The whole building of xintaimen is a special kind of deep courtyard in the south of the Yangtze River. It was built by Zhou xiongzhan (1742-1821), the eighth ancestor of Laotaimen, who bought land during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. At the same time, it also built a bridge gate.
Lu Xun once moved to xintaimen in Gaozu's family, and his lineage lasted for a long time. In 1918, through the discussion of the clansmen, they sold the houses together with the herb garden behind them to the East neighbor Zhu.
After the change of ownership, most of the original houses were demolished and rebuilt, but the main part of Lu Xun's home was fortunately preserved. Since liberation, the people's government has allocated funds for renovation many times, which has restored the old style. Most of the original furniture has been recovered and displayed as it is.
Little story
People who have been to BaiCaoYuan, Lu Xun's hometown in Shaoxing, all know that there is "acacia tree" in Lu Xun's works. However, according to the research of experts, the "acacia tree" planted here is actually "wuhanzi". These Sapindus were replanted in the 1970s according to the memories of Lu Xun's relatives and friends, which led to a dispute about whether Lu Xun wrote the acacia tree wrong or later generations planted it wrong.
Four old curators of Lu Xun memorial hall, Lu Xun experts and forestry experts got together in March 2007 to "judge" the authenticity of Gleditsia sinensis. It is believed that Lu Xun could not have mistakenly written Sapindus mukorossi as Gleditsia sinensis because its pods are very obvious. Lu Xun was very familiar with botany and could not have been unaware of this concept. In any case, a real acacia tree should be replanted in the Baicao garden. On the one hand, it can reproduce Lu Xun's scenery. On the other hand, many tourists, especially primary and secondary school students, want to see the acacia tree when they visit the Baicao garden. They can't treat Sapindus mukorossi as acacia tree.
However, there were still many Sapindus mukorossi in Shaoxing at that time, and Gleditsia sinensis had become a rarity. In order to find a suitable acacia tree, the Lu Xun Memorial Hall in Shaoxing asked the public to help find it through local media.
After the news spread, Shaoxing citizens actively participated and called one after another to provide clues. Mr. Yuan of Shihuang Town, Shengzhou, said that his neighbor had a Gleditsia sinensis tree with a diameter that met the requirements of a hundred herb garden. One Mr. Dong, whose hometown is in Fusheng Town, Shaoxing, said that he had Gleditsia sinensis in his hometown and was willing to lead the way to the mountain.
However, Shaoxing forestry experts went to the field to inspect according to the clues, but the results were no trouble. But enthusiastic Shaoxing citizens are still providing clues about Gleditsia sinensis. At the beginning of March, Yang Hebin of Xinchang provided another clue, saying that they had some information there. So on March 12, 2007, the relevant personnel went to Xinchang again, but they did not see two places. Finally, they found four real acacia trees in Anshan Town, 40 or 50 kilometers away from Xinchang County. After discussing with the owners of the trees, they selected a tree with a diameter at breast height of 25 cm and a height of 10 m to transplant it into a hundred grass garden, which reproduced the scene described by Lu Xun.
Lu Xun came from BaiCaoYuan, set foot on the road to explore a new life, blowing the clarion call to arouse the public; later generations went to BaiCaoYuan, tracing the footprints of Mr. Lu Xun, generating infinite feelings and absorbing the spiritual nutrition of fighting hard.

These childhood anecdotes in the garden left a deep and beautiful impression on Lu Xun's mind, and even aroused his cordial memory in his later years. In Lu Xun's view of childhood, BaiCaoYuan was a vibrant garden, Lu Xun wrote a famous essay "from BaiCaoYuan to Sanwei bookstore" when he was teaching in Xiamen University, which narrated his innocent amusement and strong life interest in the garden in his childhood. At the beginning of this essay, Lu Xun wrote: "there is a big garden behind my family, which is said to be called BaiCaoYuan... But it was my paradise at that time. "His kind and moving lyrical brushwork and good memories of the garden scenery all arouse people's interest in the garden.
Lu Xun first came into contact with the natural scenery in BaiCaoYuan, which aroused his interest in observing and studying some plant books, flowers and trees with drawings. In front of the courtyard of his former residence, he planted more than 20 kinds of flowers and plants in the flower pot.
