History and culture

The legend of Jianwen Emperor

According to the "Ming History Chronicles" has. In 1389, Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang died, and his grandson Zhu Yunwen ascended the throne in Nanjing, the capital city at that time. Emperor Jianwen's strategy of weakening the vassal towns and strengthening the centralization of state power aroused resentment from Zhu Di, the fourth son of Zhu Yuanzhang, the king of Yan who guarded Beiping. In the name of "Jingnan", he launched troops to attack the capital and seize the throne, and changed his name to Yongle. When the fire broke out in the palace, Jianwen emperor and ye Xixian "cut off their hair to become monks" and fled the capital in monk's clothes.

Zhang Xianzhong

From linjiashanzhai to paihuadong, it is the ancient battlefield site of Ming and Qing Dynasties. There are dozens of caves where Zhang Xianzhong, a peasant uprising army in the late Ming Dynasty, stationed troops. The most famous and the only one that has not been broken is the tianmulou site in paihuadong. It was completely preserved for more than 300 years, but it was looted during the cultural revolution, leaving only a few beams in the 13 storey wooden building.

White lotus sect

Bailianjiao is a folk religious organization. According to legend, in 1133, Mao Ziyuan founded bailianzong, a branch of Buddhism. It is also called bailiancai because its followers "respect onion milk, do not kill, do not drink". Later, it gradually evolved into bailianjiao, a folk community organization.

From 1796 to 1804, the peasants in Hubei, Sichuan and Shaanxi revolted against feudal oppression. He once lived in the area of paihuadong and left some wooden buildings.

The monarchs and ministers boated in the deep gorge of the Xihe River and read Lisao, which was desolate and sad. Later generations recorded the event and changed the name of Xihe to Yulin River.
