Nujiang cable

A long time ago, the Lisu People were inspired by the rainbow and pulled up the first rope on the Nujiang River. Since then, this convenient means of transportation has been widely used by people on both sides of the Strait. There are two kinds of sluices on the Nujiang River: smooth and steep.

Nujiang cable

The Nujiang Canyon is steep and deep, and the river is like a wild horse. It is said that a couple of Susu lovers living on both sides of the Nujiang River, inspired by the rainbow, pull up the first rope on the Nujiang River. Since then, this convenient means of transportation has been widely used by people on both sides of the Strait.

Types of rope

There are two kinds of sluices on the Nujiang River: smooth and steep.

Smooth

The two ends of the rope are as high as each other. You can cross the river and go back and forth. But when you get to the middle of the river, you have to use your arms to climb to the other side. Steep slide has a certain inclination, one high, one low, natural slide to the opposite bank, very light.

Douliu

Generally, there are two steep slides, which are inclined in the opposite direction. It's very labor-saving to go back and forth. For safety, besides the rope itself, the structure of the slide also has a slide board made of hardwood or bamboo and a hemp rope tied at the waist. It takes courage to go through the rope. When you tie your life on a rope that is not too thick, when you cross the gorge that is dizzy at a glance, and when you hear the deafening roar of the river under the rope, you will feel a little timid in your heart. When you see those men, women and children flying freely on the river, especially those aunts with their children, carrying goats and pigs to "fall from the sky", you can't help but be impressed by their courage. The rope made of Tengmi is easy to wear, so it has to be replaced after a period of time (as short as two or three months, no more than a year). When changing, choose a strong man on both sides of the river. First, tie a stone to one end of the fishing line and throw it on both sides. When the two stones are hooked together in the middle of the river, they slowly pull across the other bank. Then change the fishing line into a thicker hemp rope. At this time, fix one end of the rope on the sliding pile or tree on one bank, and tie the other end on the thick hemp rope to pull across the other bank, fix it on the tree or sliding pile on the other bank, and tighten it with a wooden stick section by section. The replacement is completed. Today, there are more and more bridges across the Nujiang River, but the sliding rope is still not out of the stage of history. The cable has become a steel cable, the slide has been replaced by pulley, and the slide is more and more safe. Some of them have become a tool for local people to exercise and entertainment. Some of them have fun together. Visitors from afar can also feel the thrill of flying in the air.
