Iron smelting sites in the Warring States Period
The iron smelting site of the Warring States period is located 500 meters south of the hotel village, hotel Township, Xiping County, Henan Province. The site connects Longquan River in the south, Tangxi River in the north and Tanshan reservoir on both sides. It is an important iron smelting base from the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty. On November 20, 1996, it was announced as the fourth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.
brief introduction
The site is rectangular, 558 meters long from east to west, 190 meters wide from north to south, with an area of 11152 square meters and a cultural layer of 1.5 meters thick. The remains of the site include furnace wall, slag, iron ore, iron sword, pottery pots, jars and building materials. Another smelting furnace still exists in the south of the site (South Bank of Tanshan reservoir). From October 29 to November 7, 1987, Henan Provincial Institute of cultural relics and Xiping County Bureau of culture jointly excavated the smelting furnace. At the same time, a trial excavation was carried out on the iron smelting site of the hotel. A 5 × 5-meter exploration square and a 2 × 7-meter exploration ditch were opened. The two excavations covered an area of 39 square meters, with a residual height of 2.25 meters, a residual width of 2.14 meters and a bottom width of 1.6 meters The inner diameter of the upper opening of the hearth is 1.42 m from east to west, 1.04 m in the south, and the lower part is shaft shaped, 0.6 m in height and 0.6 m in width from east to west. Because the north part is connected with the air duct, it should also belong to the air duct. The refractory around the air duct still retains granular state, which is far away from the hearth The construction of the furnace is to use the slope of the earth mound to dig a small shaft with a large bottom, then open an air ditch at the south end to the bottom, and then build the furnace wall and air ditch with refractory materials. The unearthed relics include pottery pendant, pottery basin, pottery pot, pottery urn, board tile, charcoal, etc. according to the relevant historical materials and the specimens collected from the site itself, it is proved that the site lasted from the Warring States period to the Jin Dynasty. Except for the large-scale man-made damage to the site when the Tanshan reservoir was built in 1958, which covers an area of 1700 square meters and was washed by the Tanshan reservoir, it is basically intact. In order to strengthen the protection of the iron smelting furnace of the Warring States period in the hotel, the cultural relics department of Xiping County successively built the protection room in 1976 and 1978. The newly built smelting furnace room and the exhibition hall of the iron smelting site of the hotel, with a building area of 175.07 square meters, has the functions of protection, display, propaganda and education.
history
According to historical records? Sue? According to the records of biography of Qin Dynasty and spring and autumn of Wu and Yue, this place is a famous smelting and casting site in the Warring States period, Han and Jin Dynasties. The famous swords such as Tangxi, Longquan, Ganjiang and moye were all cast here. The smelting furnace of the Warring States period, which has been preserved so far, is the earliest and most complete smelting furnace built with the prepared black refractory furnace wall material in our country, which provides a reference for the study of ancient Chinese history The history of modern metallurgy provides important material materials.
engineering
In December 1998, the State Administration of cultural relics allocated 200000 yuan for the construction of "Hotel iron smelting furnace protection room of Warring States period" and "Xiping Hotel iron smelting ruins exhibition hall". The project was started in May 1999 and completed on December 19, 1999. It took seven months with a construction area of 175.07 square meters.
