Insect Museum of Northwest A & F University

The insect museum of Northwest A & F University was founded in June 1987 in Northwest A & F University. The second phase project was completed and put into use in August 1999. The third phase project exhibition hall and butterfly net room were completed and opened to the public in October 2005.

Development history

The construction and development of Entomological Museum has been attached great importance and concerned by the party and state leaders at all levels and higher authorities. Wang Zhen, former vice president of the State Council, Wang Renzhong, vice chairman of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, Huang Hua, state councilor, Song Jian, director of the State Science and Technology Commission, Song Ping, director of the State Planning Commission, he Kang, Minister of agriculture, Liu Jiang, and previous party and government leaders of Shaanxi Province all fully affirmed and strongly supported the achievements of Entomology in our university. We set up the Entomological Museum in 1987 with special funds, and the Ministry of agriculture in July 1988 The Department of education also allocated $70000 to equip the museum exhibition hall.

architectural composition

In 2003, it invested 15 million yuan to build a new exhibition hall in the prosperous area of Yangling Demonstration Area, with an exhibition area of more than 3600 square meters. It also built a greenhouse and a net room of 3300 square meters, raising butterflies and other live insects for the audience to watch. Insect museum is divided into four parts: exhibition, collection, scientific research and supporting system.

1. Exhibition part: it is a popular science base of Entomology with the largest exhibition area, the richest exhibits, the highest exhibition level, the integration of a variety of modern display means, and the integration of knowledge and interest. It is also an important patriotic education base.

2. Collection part: more than 1.2 million insect specimens at home and abroad are collected, ranking the first in China's colleges and universities. It is an important insect species diversity preservation base.

3. Research part: including Institute of Entomology of the Ministry of agriculture, doctoral program of Entomology, mobile post doctoral station of first level discipline of plant protection, entomology part of key open laboratories of the Ministry of education and the Ministry of agriculture, research and development center of insect resources of Yangling University of agriculture and forestry, experimental studio and library, etc. Accept visiting scholars and graduate students at home and abroad to carry out cooperative research and thesis writing.

4. Affiliated institutions: the Journal of Entomology was founded in 1979, the Journal of butterfly branch of Chinese entomological society was founded in 1997, Shaanxi entomological society, butterfly branch of Chinese entomological society and Zhou Yao entomological Award Foundation were successively founded.

The Entomological Museum warmly welcomes the support and cooperation from all walks of life, and accepts donations of instruments and equipment, insect specimens, books and materials and funds from research institutions, social organizations and individuals at home and abroad. With the support of relevant national departments and the whole society, insect museum will make due contributions to entomology in China.

Honors

Li Lanqing, vice premier of the State Council, visited the insect museum in Yangling Demonstration Area in 1996 and asked to further improve the construction of Insect Museum and make it play a greater role. Subsequently, the State Planning Commission, the Ministry of agriculture, the people's Government of Shaanxi Province, Yangling Agricultural High Tech demonstration zone and the former Northwest Agricultural University invested 8 million yuan in the construction of the second phase project. Through three phases of construction, the world's largest and well-known comprehensive Insect Museum has been built. In 1999, it was named "China Youth Science and technology innovation action education base" by the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and all China Youth Federation. It is the main body of the "National Youth Science Popularization Education Base" of the science popularization education center of Northwest A & F University. In 2000, it was named "Shaanxi science popularization education base" and "Shaanxi Youth Education Base". In 2003, it was rated as a 2A level tourism unit. In 2005, it became the "National Youth Science Popularization Education Base" Science popularization education base.
