Huang Binhong Memorial Hall

Located at No. 31, qixialing, West Lake, it is the former residence of the famous painter Huang Binhong. Huang Binhong, who moved here in the autumn of 1948, has done many landscape paintings of the West Lake, claiming that he is "willing to be an old painter of the West Lake". After his death in March 1955, his family donated all his previous works and more than 10000 pieces of his collection to the country. In September 1959, his former residence was set up as the National Memorial of Mr. Huang Binhong. The memorial hall is a small courtyard with a square shape. In the center of the garden is a white marble statue of Huang Binhong, surrounded by pine, bamboo and plum trees. The exhibition hall consists of a two-story building. The downstairs studio displays the artist's mahogany painting table, four treasures of the study, wooden sofa, etc.; the upstairs Works Gallery is 165 square meters, displaying 12 representative paintings of landscape, flowers and birds. The exhibition room displays the artist's Chronicles, works and manuscripts.

Origin of former residence

In the autumn of 1948, Mr. Huang Binhong came to Hangzhou from Peiping as a professor of Hangzhou National Academy of Arts. He first lived in qixialing No.19 art college dormitory next to Yuemiao in the west of the city. In the spring of 1952, he moved to No. 32, qixialing.

On March 25, 1955, Mr. Huang died of cancer in Hangzhou.

On March 26, 34 representatives from Shen Yanbing, Qi Baishi, Liu Kaiqu, Lai Shaoqi, Fu Lei, Feng Zikai, Shao Peizi, Ma Yifu, Dong Yumao and other relevant parties formed the "Mr. Huang Binhong funeral committee", and the East China branch of China Artists Association published an obituary.

On the 27th, Mr. Huang's memorial service was held by Zhejiang Provincial People's Government in Hangzhou baoshanqiao funeral home. Zhou Enlai, second chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, Li Jishen, vice chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, and China Artists Association sent telegrams of condolence. Zhejiang provincial Party and government leaders and people in the art circles sent wreaths.

In March 1956, the people's Committee of Zhejiang Province decided to take the former residence of Mr. Huang Binhong, No. 32, qixialing, Hangzhou, as the "memorial room of Mr. Huang Binhong".
