Tanxian stone city is located on Tanxian ridge in the west of Nanbei Lake scenic spot, with an altitude of 96.7 meters. It is the junction of Haiyan and Haining, and also the channel from ancient Haiyan County to Hangzhou.

Human history

Shicheng is in a precarious situation. There are two mountains on the left and right, nanmushan in the south, beimushan in the north, huangwan mountains in Haining in the west, and Sanhua Li Long Valley in the East. There is only one rugged path to go in and out. From the north and South lakeside, you can see that "one man is in charge of the pass, ten thousand people are not allowed to open". Therefore, it is also known as "Badaling in the south of the Yangtze River", which has been valued by military experts of all ages. In the 32nd year of Jiajing reign of the Ming Dynasty, Xu Xingjian, commander of hainingwei, led his troops out of tanxianling to pursue and annihilate the Japanese pirates, and Zhang Guowei. In the third year of the reign of emperor Shunzhi of the Qing Dynasty, Huang Zongxi, an anti Qing Zhishi, was stationed on the ridge under the order of the Nanming regime, planning to restore the great cause of the Ming Dynasty. In the 24th year of Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty, Liu Yunke, the governor, built a stone city here. He built two fortresses, five official halls and ten barracks.

In 1989, the people's Government of Haiyan County appropriated funds for renovation, which lasted for four years. The shape of the building is still the same. It is 72.4 meters long from north to south, 41.3 meters wide from east to west, and 5.7 meters high. There is a building on the city, a statue of General Xu Xingjian and a commanding platform in the city, and a hollow wall for storing soldiers. In the first half of 2000, this "No.1 small city in the world" was determined to be the smallest stone city in China through the measurement and notarization assessment of experts from all walks of life. It was shortlisted as jinis of Shanghai world and designated as the national defense education base of Jiaxing in the same year.

Famous scenic spot

The name of Xianling is related to tan Qiao. Song Dynasty "Shu Shui Zhi" records: there is Tan Xian temple. It is said that Tan Qiao, a Taoist of the Southern Tang Dynasty, was the master of alchemy. Up to now, there are relics such as immortal feet, stone bathtubs and alchemy wells.
