Xiazhi Island

Xiazhi island is located between Liuheng island and Taohua Island, 2.2km away from Taohua island in the northeast and 5.7KM away from Liuheng island in the southwest. The land area is 17.01 square kilometers, and the highest point, Jiao'ao mountain, is 207 meters above sea level, with a coastline of 57.02 kilometers. Because its shape is like shrimp floating in the sea, and there are many Aomen, so it is called Xiashi island.

Brief introduction of Xiazhi Island

The island has a NW-SE trend and is long and narrow like a shrimp. The coastline is zigzag, bay and Cape alternate, the Bay entrance is narrow, deep and wedge-shaped, which is a good port anchorage.

The tourism resources of Xiazhi Island include Qifeng, Yishi, fishing port, Bihai and other natural landscapes, as well as the Qingliang nunnery with a history of nearly 200 years and the commemorative plaque of eight fishermen who died in the fight against pirates more than 120 years ago.

There is no evidence for the early development of Xiazhi island. Yuan Dade's "Chang Guo Zhou Tu Zhi" bears the name of "Xia Zhi". The records of Dinghai county and Dinghai Hall of the Qing Dynasty contain the names of the mountains and Ao "Xiaqi". In the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, Xiazhi district was set up on the island. In the reign of emperor Xuantong, it was renamed Linghe township. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, it was renamed Xiazhi township. After the liberation in October 1949, Putuo county was established in 1953 (divided into districts in 1987) and put under the jurisdiction of Putuo county. The town was built in 1989.

There are 16 administrative villages on the island. In 2000, there were 6083 households with 22035 residents.

Xiazhi island is famous for its rich production of precious flowers. In particular, Narcissus, Euonymus japonicus, Rhododendron and other wild flowers, as well as traditional Chinese medicine asparagus are regarded as specialty.

Xiazhi island also has a better harbor. In the northeast of Taohua port, 150000 ton ships can enter and leave freely; in the east of the port, the water is deep and the waves are quiet, so it is also a good port for fishing boats to berth and avoid the wind; in the south of the port, shrimp can also let all kinds of fishing boats in and out freely.

The sea area around Xiazhi island is rich in all kinds of seafood, such as large and small yellow croaker, hairtail, cuttlefish, minnow, shrimp, head fish, prawn, kelp, razor clam and so on.

There are village buses in Xiazhi Island, which lead to various villages. It runs every half an hour in the morning and every hour in the afternoon. Generally, you can buy a ticket to Xiazhi island through the Duntou passenger station of Shenjiamen. The ticket price is 18 yuan. There are three ships in a day, and they work overtime on holidays according to the situation.
