As of 2013, there are 187 species of birds in 38 families, including 9 species of national class I protected birds such as Red Crowned Crane and great bustard, 27 species of national class II protected birds such as Swan and white spoonbill, 31 species of fish in 8 families, 10 species of amphibians and reptiles in 3 families, 42 species of mammals in 15 families, including 4 species of national class II protected suckling animals, and 344 species of plants in 199 genera of 60 families.
Management measures
Organization setup
As of 2013, Huihe Nature Reserve Management Bureau has three departments: office, science and technology publicity and education department, and protection and management department. The administration has four observation and management stations: Camel neck observation and management station, xiboqiao observation and management station, Gaolin wendor core area observation and management station, modamuji observation and management station; and a Bird Rescue and breeding center, located in camel neck.
There is a police station in the reserve, which is under the dual management of Ewenki Public Security Bureau and the Reserve Management Bureau. The reserve has also set up an environmental monitoring brigade and a fishery administration brigade.
Ecological significance
Huihe wetland is the largest swamp and lake type belt wetland in the east of Hulunbeier grassland. Together with Dalai Lake, daursk of Russia and Daur of Mongolia, Huihe wetland constitutes the grassland wetland ecosystem in Northeast Asia. It is an important ecological barrier in Northeast Asia and even the world. It has irreplaceable function and value in maintaining the stability of regional biodiversity.
The effective regulation of climate in Huihe wetland is a necessary condition for the formation of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica forest in sandy land. The important functions of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica forest in sandy land, such as wind prevention, sand fixation and water conservation, provide sufficient water for wetland, form symbiotic ecosystem through interaction, and provide material basis for grassland ecosystem. Huihe wetland, as an important breeding, habitat and transit station for migratory birds, enjoys a high reputation in the world. It is one of the most important breeding places for bustard, Red Crowned Crane, swan and goose. It is also an important migration channel for 16 species of East Asian Australian migratory birds. The International Red book of birds has listed Huihe wetland as an important autumn gathering and migration place for migratory birds.
The establishment of Huihe National Nature Reserve can effectively protect the ecosystem of Pinus sylvestris var. mongolica forest in wetland, grassland and sandy land, protect regional biological and genetic gene diversity, establish biological gene bank, carry out ecological monitoring, rescue and breeding of rare species, and provide a good guarantee for the sustainable utilization of biological resources in Hulunbuir city and even in northern China It is of great economic and social significance to improve the ecological environment.
