Jiuluzhai ecotourism area is located in the southwest border of Xiema Town, Baokang County, at the junction of Yichang, Xingshan and other cities and counties. It spans two towns of Xiema and MALIANG, with an average altitude of more than 1200 meters. The total area of the scenic spot is more than 170 square kilometers, covering 12 natural villages in Xiema town. Jiuluzhai village has three cliffs and one is connected with the outside world. In ancient times, there were only nine paths climbing up and down by stone steps and ropes, so it got its name.

On August 15, 2016, jiuluzhai ecotourism area won the title of "the first batch of geological tourism demonstration scenic spots in Hubei Province".

On September 12, 2018, jiuluzhai ecotourism area was officially approved as a national AAAA scenic spot.

Introduction to scenic spots

Jiuluzhai is located in the southwest of Baokang, at the junction of Baokang, Yichang and Xingshan counties. There are four cliffs here, only nine rugged paths winding in and out of the village. Jiuluzhai is 5.5km long from east to west and 4.5km wide from northwest, with the highest altitude of 1426m. It is surrounded by seven rivers, including zhankou River, Tianqiao River, Xinlu River, liuboping River, Nanmen River, Bawang River and Luogu River, covering an area of about 90 square kilometers.

Jiuluzhai mountains are crisscross, valleys are interlinked, peaks are towering, and streams are circling. Because of its high peak and secluded gorge, it is sparsely populated and inhabited by dozens of rare birds and animals. There are many kinds of rare plants, which are a treasure house of green resources. It has always been in a primitive state. Mountains, forests, villages, caves and waterfalls constitute a wonderful, fantastic and beautiful natural scenery. It is a typical natural scenic spot in high mountains and valleys.

The scenic area has a unique landform, unique mountains and dangerous land. It integrates majestic, precipitous and beautiful scenery. It has rivers, valleys, rocks, forests, waterfalls and caves. Its scenery is comparable to Zhangjiajie and Jiuzhaigou. It is a tourist treasure with great charm and taste. So far, more than 100 scenic spots with high ornamental value have been found in the scenic area, among which the most beautiful and spectacular are Huanglong cave, Xiangbi mountain, Buddha's waterfall, yixiantian, luoguzhai River, jiangjunfeng, Tianma mountain, Tianqiao, etc.

Folklore

Before liberation, sun xiuzhang, a local local tyrant, took over the village by virtue of natural danger, and pulled up a team of more than 200 people to dominate the village. He blocked eight of the roads, leaving a way to climb up and down in the extremely dangerous Zhaikou "zhuangtiandong" and guarding it. Jiulu village is also named for the nine barriers to the outside world in the sun xiuzhang era.

As a professional outdoorman, "Dage" has led a team and explored the way to jiulu village several times, visiting the mountains and rivers and the villagers in the mountains. After enjoying the original and beautiful natural scenery of jiulu village, he has had a long talk with the local old people for many times. In 2006, when he was exploring the road with goat in jiulu village, he ran into an old man of sixteen. He lived in his home for several days and learned that when he was young, the old man had seen sun xiuzhang, the bandit leader who once dominated jiulu village. According to the old man:

"Although sun xiuzhang was not tall, he was strong. Although he was a bandit leader, he usually wore coarse cloth and short clothes, and his behavior was unobtrusive, he was resolute and cunning. After the liberation of Xiema town and Baifeng town in Baokang, sun xiuzhang once walked down the mountain on foot for one day and returned to jiulu village safely. At that time, he was over 50 years old."

The old man said that two days before the local government and the people's liberation army attacked jiulu village in 1949, he and the local young people were summoned to a hiding place. They were told that there had been a major military operation recently to recruit them as porters. All the people were not allowed to go home or meet with their relatives. Only two days later, the battle against jiulu village started, did they know the purpose of this trip.

After the liberation of jiulu village, the old man entered jiulu village with the army. The local government distributed sun xiuzhang's property to the local villagers, and the old man was given a cabinet and other daily necessities.

Although the old man is old, he is still strong and forthright. Each meal can eat a large bowl of rice, drink three liang of brewed rice wine, an average of one jin of rice a day, one jin of wine. Two days later, the old man was still in high spirits. ha-ha!

During this period, I learned from the old man's daughter and son-in-law that before the liberation of jiulu village, bandits were rampant and the people were in dire straits. There was once a village woman who was reluctant to wear the wedding dress because she was newly married. When a bandit attacked, she forgot her wedding dress and was robbed by the bandits. The bride was in agony.

Among the villagers of jiulu village, there are many legends about sun xiuzhang and the objects left behind. Sun xiuzhang was born in an ordinary mountain people's family. His ancestral house was built in the place where the old headmaster Jiancao now lives. After becoming famous, he built a three in and three out mansion on the site of jiuluzhai village committee. In the base of a house about 50 meters ahead of the village committee gate, there is still a piece of aragonite with flowers in the original mansion. There are the most concentrated and best terraced fields in the village, which can be opened from the front and back of the field of vision. It is also the intersection of several roads in and out of the village, from which the whole mountain fortress can be controlled. From this, we can see sun xiuzhang's shrewdness and hegemony.

As a child, sun xiuzhang liked to dance guns and clubs, raise dogs and hunt. He is irritable, but he doesn't bully the weak. He is good at fighting with the strong, so he has made many enemies. Sun xiuzhang had been retaliated by his enemies many times, but with his flexible mind and strong body, he survived. Later, it became more and more famous. In addition to the local villagers in jiulu village, there were also some villagers in Xingshan and Yichang. In order to avoid the war and take refuge with sun xiuzhang, a bandit village with jiulu village as the center and self-sufficiency was formed. It is said that sun xiuzhang married nine wives in his life, but because of illness or revenge, there were only three left before liberation. One of them lived in jiulu village after liberation.

Sun xiuzhang's youngest son still lives in jiuluzhai village. He changed his surname to Wen and his name to Zhengzhang. Although he is 66 years old, he is healthy, cheerful and talkative. He has a good voice and is a well-known local folk singer.

Animal legend

In the mountains and jungles of jiuluzhai, people witnessed tigers, leopards, wolves and other wild animals in the early 1950s. Most of the mountains are towering ancient trees. Later, due to random cutting and wanton killing, the natural ecology was seriously damaged. When I was in jiulu village, I heard that a kind of extinct animal was mentioned by mountain people. It behaved like a wolf but barked like a dog. It liked to live in groups and often attacked villagers and livestock. The local people named it "langbazi". Because there are only oral and mountain people's cognition of animal knowledge, it is not clear what animal it is until now.

Route introduction

Jiuluzhai, located in the south of Xiema Town, is a famous eco-tourism scenic spot both inside and outside the province. It is 5.5km long from east to west and 4.5km wide from north to south. The main peak is 1427m above sea level.

Jiuluzhai karst landform strange, vast virgin forest, mountain valley waterfall spectacular. Qifeng and Yougu are the perfect setting, and the waterfalls and the forest are shining together. It can be called a modern paradise. It is recognized by experts as a rare high-grade large-scale original eco-tourism area in Central China.

Jiulu village's arduous history of liberation and unique primitive folk culture make her mysterious and charming.

The mountains, forests, caves, stockaded villages and waterfalls make up the wonderful, fantastic and beautiful natural scenery, which can be compared with the Three Gorges, Huashan Mountain, Qingcheng City, Emei and Zhangjiajie. Jiulu village has more than 60 unique mountain fronts, including three waterfalls: Buddha Wangbao, Wanglong waterfall and Huanglong waterfall; three karst caves: Huanglong cave, Erlang cave and Wangjiazhai; five waterfalls: tianjiachong, sunjiachong, Lijiachong, xiejachong and gulouchong; huanpeng Dazhai, Longdong and liangbian. They are integrated into a unique landscape of jiulu village.

Jiuluzhai is indeed a very mysterious place. Its charm lies in its numerous scenic spots. More than 60 scenic spots have been explored, which can be roughly divided into six sightseeing routes.

The front line of zhankou River

The front line of zhankou River starts from dazhaibian and ends at longdongbian, with Canyon scenery as its main feature. It follows tuzuan Tiandao, sister bridge, zhankou River, woshi peak, Huaping peak, Buddha's waterfall, Xinlu, Baixiang peak, Qingshi peak, xiangnu peak, Zhenshan tower (Qinglong Temple) Jiuhu peak and other scenic spots. Diamond Road, also known as "a line of sky", is the nearest scenic spot from the village. It is the only way for sun xiuzhang to grasp the dangerous words. There is one man in charge of the pass and ten thousand men are not allowed to open the danger. Now it has been renovated, the risk is not as good as before, but people who pass here still feel like "drilling".

Luoguzhai River

The first line of luoguzhai river includes sanlongtan, Wujiagou and shibatan. Along the line, there are more than 20 ecological wonders, such as longan spring, Huilong Temple, overpass, Yudai waterfall, shibawan, yupingguan, etc. it is the most magical place in jiuluzhai scenic area, among which the natural phenomenon of three tides in one day is the most unique.

Datong River Line

From longdongbian to quchitang, it passes through huofal mountain, matouyan, Datong River, liuboping, Shilin mountain, laolongquan, Wuniu drinking water, Kongque mountain, xiaofoyan, benmayan and nanyanpo, with a total length of more than 20 Li. It is dominated by Qifeng and numerous scenic spots.

Wanglonggou line

Quchi flows to wanglonggou, with a total length of 14 Li, passing through wangjiakou, tongjiahe, deaf River and JIGUANSHI. Wanglonggou line of unique scenery, gentle River, waterfalls unique, vegetation is the original ecology, ancient trees, block the sky. The river is narrow and straight, people walk by the stream, listen to the water and watch the fish; the canyon is small and smart, very quiet.
