Daily record of inspection department
Zhou Enlai and other arrested representatives were detained in Tianjin local procuratorate from April 7, 1920 to July 17, 1920, which is recorded in the daily record of procuratorial department. Zhou Enlai's diary style is based on the activity diary and diary of the arrested representatives.
Zhou Enlai said it was "purely subjective". According to the book, the conditions of arrested representatives in the prosecutor's office have been improved, and they can read and study. Zhou Enlai also spent five nights introducing Marxism to his friends. Six months in prison made Zhou Enlai lose his freedom, but it was good for his growth. He used this period of time in custody to rethink some problems. In his letter to a friend, he once said: "thought is trembling in prison". After he was released from prison, Zhou Enlai began to take the road of professional revolutionist.
According to Zhou Enlai's "examples" in the book, the manuscript was completed on November 24, 1920 on the way to study in Europe: "Feifei is determined to go to Europe in the Indian Ocean."
The manuscript has been published in Tianjin new public opinion newspaper since the spring of 1921. In July 1926, with the efforts of Ma Qianli and Meng zhenhou, both arrested representatives, the book was printed by Youxin printing house and signed "Zhou Feifei". "Inspection hall daily record" is 32 folio, hard black hardcover, few handed down, has been designated as a national first-class cultural relics.
A printing press
There is a printing press on display in the life hall of Zhou Enlai's Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall. This ordinary printing press, which was produced in Japan in the early 20th century, is famous for its responsibility of printing the newspaper of Tianjin students' Union, and has been collected and displayed by the memorial hall as a cultural relic.
Detention in Police Department
"Police department detention record" and "procuratorate department daily record" record Zhou Enlai's life in prison and more than 20 representatives of all walks of life Federation and student union arrested for boycotting Japanese goods.
The record of detention in police department records the situation of Zhou Enlai and other arrested representatives in Tianjin police department from January 29, 1920 to April 7, 1920. It was compiled by Zhou Enlai in prison according to the oral statements of the representatives. The first edition started in May and was completed on June 5. Since December 1920, it has been serially published in Tianjin new people's daily with the signature of "Feifei". Later, it was printed by xinminyi daily and published in a single edition.
"Police department detention record" adopts the method of actual record, which is "pure objective writing" in Zhou Enlai's words. It records that the reactionary police department used the delaying means of "neither interrogation nor release" to the arrested representatives, and also records Zhou Enlai's struggle with his difficult friends. It also records that 24 people, such as Deng Yingchao, went to the police department to ask for the replacement of the arrested representatives in order to rescue their comrades in arms . Between the lines, we can feel the revolutionary spirit of patriotism, sacrifice and struggle of young students like Zhou Enlai during the May 4th movement.
There is also a short story about the manuscript of police detention: this precious manuscript has been tossed and turned for several times, and it has fallen into the hands of booksellers. In 1951, the Department concerned bought it back from xiaoxiange secondhand bookstore of Liulichang in Beijing, presented it to Comrade Zhou Enlai for appraisal, and planned to display it in the Central Revolutionary Museum at that time. Premier Zhou resolutely opposed his manuscripts entering the Revolutionary History Museum, so the manuscripts were kept in the xihuating hall. After Premier Zhou died, Comrade Deng Yingchao sent the manuscripts to the museum for preservation under the repeated demands of the Chinese revolutionary museum. Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao were very opposed to publicizing them, and even more opposed to building a memorial hall for them. This manuscript's spreading experience is a good example.
Consciousness magazine
Consciousness magazine, founded by consciousness society, a patriotic student movement group in Tianjin, was edited by Comrade Zhou Enlai and officially published on January 20, 1920. On September 16, 1919, the awakening society, one of the earliest revolutionary groups in China, was composed of some backbone members of two progressive groups, the "Tianjin students' union" with boys as members and the "women's patriotic comrades' Association" with girls as members.
The establishment of the awakening society broke the shackles of feudal customs at that time. In order to show equality between men and women, there were 10 male and 10 female members. They were all ambitious and enthusiastic young people who emerged from the patriotic movement, including Zhou Enlai and Deng Yingchao. Soon after its establishment, the awakening society attracted the attention of many people.
Beijing Morning Post once made a special report on the establishment of the awakening society. It called the awakening society "the little star of Tianjin" and wrote: "the society has been in existence for three months, and its members are the most outstanding, pure, struggling and enlightened young people in the academic circles of Tianjin."
