Profile
Chen Baisha is the only literati in Lingnan who was allowed to visit the hometown of Confucius, the founder of Confucianism (Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong), so he is called "the first person in Lingnan".
Chen Baisha (1428-1500), a famous naturalist thinker, educator, calligrapher, poet and life scientist in Ming Dynasty, was the first person of Lingnan Guqin. Chen Baisha is the only great Confucian who worships Confucius Temple in Guangdong Province. He is the founder of mind learning in Ming Dynasty. Since Chen Xianzhang advocated the idea of nourishing the mind and keeping quiet, Confucianism in Ming Dynasty has changed from Neo Confucianism to centrism, which has become an important turning point in the history of Confucianism
. He founded the "Baisha theory" or "Jiangmen school", which is "based on Tao, based on nature, and valued learning for self satisfaction, and valued learning for knowledge and doubt". Chen Baisha, formerly known as Chen Xianzhang (1428-1500), was named Gongfu, Shizhai, but not old man Biyu, Jushi of Yutai, fisherman of Jiangmen, woodcutter of Nanhai, old man HuangYun, etc. Ming Xuanzong Xuande three years (AD 1428) on October 21, was born in Xinhui county (now Jiangmen City Xinhui District) Duhui village. He is the posthumous son of Chen yueyun, a scholar, and his mother is a chaste woman named Lin.
In September of the third year of Xuande, Chen leyun died of illness at the age of 27. About one month after his death, Chen Xianzhang was born. His elder brother Chen Xianwen was five years old and his mother Lin was 24 years old. When Chen Xianzhang was ten years old, his mother Lin's family moved from metropolis village to Baisha village, following the allusion of Mencius' mother choosing a neighbor. Later, Chen Xianzhang lectured in Baisha village and became famous in the world. In the academic circle, he was known as Mr. Baisha.
Chen Xianzhang was intelligent and studious when he was young. He was educated and raised by his virtuous mother Lin's family. He was good at poetry and writing, and had lofty aspirations. He was born in a weak position. When he was 20 years old, he took part in the local examination and ranked ninth in the exam. At the age of 21, he took part in the Wuchen examination, and was awarded the second prize. He went to the Imperial College to study. In the second year, Jingtai took part in the examination again and failed. When he was 27 years old, Chen Xianzhang abandoned juziye and went to Jiangxi Province to study the origin of Yiluo. Wu and Bi (Mr. Kang Zhai) urged us to work hard. At the age of 28, he went back to Baisha village and built chunyangtai. He stayed at home and read ancient and modern books. He also made his family bring in food from the window every day and eat it carelessly, which is called "cave wall feeding". When he was very sleepy, he washed his face and feet with clean water. After one or two years, he still had no clue about his knowledge, and because he studied hard day and night, his body was almost exhausted. Of course, he didn't get anything from this kind of dead reading method, that is, his heart didn't tally with this theory. Fortunately, Mr. Baisha was not far away from his lost way, so he gave up his appointment and only sat in meditation, from which he developed a clue. "After a long time, I can see that my heart is revealed. It is often like having things. All kinds of daily entertainment are as I wish, just like a horse's imperial title. There are different sources of understanding physics and reviewing the holy precepts, such as the origin of water. So he "washed it with the wind and swayed it with the waves", so he did his best to sweep away his old habits, "or sing a long song in the forest, or howl alone on the island, or make boats and throw poles at the sea music at the end of the river". Finally, he founded the Jiangmen School of thought, which was "based on Tao, based on nature, and valued learning to know doubt, and valued learning to be self satisfied". Mr. Baisha advocated education to prosper the country. He said: "the beauty and evil of the world depend on people, and the virtue of people depends on education." "Since ancient times, there have been state-owned enterprises, whose task is not to set up schools and educate talents." Xiaolushan academy is set up to teach students. Pursuing Confucius' thought of "education without discrimination", he said, "it's academic work, rich and poor, high and low, but not talent. There's no such choice for them." "Those who go out of their doors tend to be self reliant, not rich. Its high wind is also far away. Zhan Ruoshui, who served as the Minister of rites, officials and arms in Ming Dynasty, was a teacher of Mr. Baisha. He further put forward the idea of "recognizing the natural principle everywhere in daily use" on the basis of Mr. Baisha's theory of "taking Tao as the foundation and taking nature as the religion", which won Mr. Baisha's praise. On his deathbed, Mr. Baisha handed over his lecture place, Diaoyutai, to Zhan Ruoshui to show his inheritance. Mr. Baisha is good at writing poems, and he often teaches poems in his lectures, which is called "poem teaching". Baisha's poems are good at expressing the nature's mind, and there is no such malpractice as affectation or moaning without illness. At the age of 39, Mr. Baisha once traveled to Taixue. Xing rang, a wine official, ordered Mr. Baisha to write a poem with him to test his talent. Therefore, Mr. Baisha wrote a poem "He Yang Guishan will no longer have rhyme this day"
Xing rang was greatly praised and even called "it's better to be Guishan.". Mr. Baisha was famous in the dynasty. For a time, the central government competed with him to travel with him. At the age of 56, Mr. Baisha was recommended to Beijing, where he was said to be a saint. Because of his mother's illness, Mr. Baisha begged emperor Chenghua for his final support. The imperial court granted him the duty of reviewing the Imperial Academy. He recovered from his illness and still served in the future. Mr. Baisha, thank you for coming back. In the 13th year of Hongzhi, Wu Shizhong again recommended eight people to serve in the court, including Wang, Liu, Xie and Mr. Baisha. When the appointment came, Mr. Baisha had died of illness on February 10th, at the age of 73.
There are many relics of Mr. Chen Baisha in Jiangmen. In addition to the "chuyuntai", "chunyangtai", "Lushan academy" and "jiahuilou", there are still "Baisha Temple", "biyulou" and "zhenzhenzhenbeifang", all of which were built in the Ming Dynasty. Among them, the chastity memorial archway is designated as the "key cultural relics protection unit of Guangdong Province". In addition, there are "diaotai site", "Baisha Park" and other memorial buildings.
Maolong pen
Mr. Baisha was also the most famous calligrapher in Lingnan in Ming Dynasty. His calligraphy, rooted in Ouyang Xun and Su Dongpo, is deeply rooted in his masculinity. He is also praised by later calligraphers for his dexterity of two kings and huaisu. In his later years, Mr. Bai Sha wrote Maolong's calligraphy, which was famous in the field of calligraphy for its simplicity, weakness and weakness. Mr. Baisha once had some famous sayings, such as "Mao Jun uses things a little and starts to call himself a miracle", "when he is drunk, Mao long flies out of the right army's nest" and "if he is ashamed of himself, he will not be ashamed of himself, and Mao Feng will be fragrant". There are many calligraphy traces left by Mr. Baisha, such as the first tablet in Lingnan, the tablet of Ciyuan Temple (stone running script), the praise of "Ren" (wood running script), and the planting of Juema (paper hand scroll, cursive script), etc. Baisha Maolong pen is famous at home and abroad. It has been handed down from generation to generation and has been declared as an intangible cultural heritage by the state. The Baisha Maolong pen, supervised by Chen Baisha memorial hall, is made by selecting the wild Fengmao grass on Guifeng mountain and using the traditional production process of Maolong pen. It is refined by many processes, such as material selection, tapping fiber, antiseptic washing, binding and combing. The tip of the pen is sharp, the belly of the pen is round and healthy, and the shape of the pen holder is simple and elegant. As long as the ink content is moderate, it is easy to form a natural "drag silk" and "fly white" effect in writing or painting, which is deeply loved by famous calligraphers and painters. The late famous calligraphers and painters Mai Huasan, Yang shanchen and Huang Zhaoji in our province, as well as the living calligraphers and painters ou Guangyong, Chen Yongqiang, Xue Jianhong, Zhang Ruiheng and Li Zhuojian, all like to use Mao longbi to create calligraphy and paintings, and they often get unexpected magical effects.
